Interviews with Joey Styles/Big Show/Woods, TNA show updates, EC3 opponent, Otunga appears, ex-NFL star training for WWE, Santino's training academy, another Gut Check, TNA-MMA star injured and Questions on no Monday Night Wars, jobbers in the Hall, Bully vs. AJ, the hardcore style, Show working despite being fired and David Otunga

Joey Styles talked about a number of wrestling topics. Very smart guy.

There will be a number of Impact Wrestling tapings on the road in the future, but it won't be a regular occurrence. It will be nice to get out of Orlando from time to time.

TNA's going to be doing more live events once they return to Orlando for tapings. That's good, as the calendar right now looks really bare.

The 12/27 TNA event in Philadelphia has officially been canceled. There could be live events in the markets of canceled Impacts. Whatever gets their momentum going again in the post-Hogan (and Bischoff?) era.

TNA morale is said to be much higher after the recent talent meeting. With Hogan and Bischoff absent, I can't say I'm massively surprised.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

The identity of Dewey Barnes, who lost to Ethan Carter III on Impact, is Tennessee indy wrestler "White Tiger". He sells merchandise for TNA when they're on the road. Of note, EC3 will be in action again on the next edition of Impact. I'm enjoying the EC3 character so far and hope we're in for more talented wrestlers with engaging characters.

David Otunga is featured in a WWE.com interview about Big Show suing WWE. That was enjoyable. I miss his character. I wouldn't mind him returning as a mouthpiece at least. I have no idea why he hasn't been used since March other than potentially being "out of sight, out of mind". Creative clearly has other plans than using him.

Big Show was interviewed before Hell in a Cell. He does cry a lot on-screen. I remember him crying years back during the infamous Big Boss Man angle. People still talk about how over-the-top that angle is. As for Cena, his workrate is just off the charts. Crazy level of motivation. Big Show doesn't have catchphrases, but he does have a number of nicknames and signature move names.

Former NFL player Shawne Merriman is training in the WWE Performance Center. That looks painful. I popped for the Mongo McMichael reference. Wow. Didn't expect to see that one in 2013.

Update: as of this writing, he hasn't been offered any kind of deal. It would be interesting if he makes it.

Santino Marella's Battle Arts Academy hosted some WWE superstars. I can just picture him plugging his school on TV in-character, teaching NXT stars how to tame the Cobra.

NXT's Xavier Woods was interviewed at a B A Star rally. I think it's a good sign for his career that WWE's using him in that way.

TNA has announced a new Gut Check for Ohio. You too can join the ranks of TNA stars Alex Silva, Joey Ryan, Taeler Hendrix, Sam Shaw, Christian York, Wes Brisco, Jay Bradley, Crimson and Lei'D Tapa. I had to check to see if some of those people were still employed. MAYBE the "new TNA" will be better with this concept.

Impact's audience this week was up to 1.26 million this week. That's much higher than the previous 4 weeks. I hope they continue to get something of a boost.

TNA/MMA star Tito Ortiz has a fractured bone, so he won't be facing Rampage Jackson. No word on when either performer (or King Mo) will be back in TNA.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. This is an alternate-reality scenario I'd love to know myself. The Monday Night Wars were a huge boon to business and changed wrestling as we know it. The competition lit a fire under the WWF and they had to take chances they didn't want to take. I wish they had more of a fire under them today.

2. Brawler's almost certainly going in at some point given his current role in the company. The others are up to WWE management. It's Vince's Hall of Fame to a large degree.

3. The two situations are definitely really similar, but I'd argue that the angle is one of the best TNA has done in a long time. It's much better than what they had going on before AJ's contract situation became an issue. If you're going to rip off a storyline, rip off a good one and do it well. TNA's mostly doing that.

4. I see a lot of what they're saying here. The questioner, like a lot of others, wasn't aware of what was going on a deeper level. And who knows? Without the more edgy hardcore stuff, wrestling might not have become what it's become today. I think there's still a place for some "big bumps" and hardcore matches and such, but not at the scale we saw in the '90s.

5. The story WWE is putting out is basically that Show was signed to do all those shows and appearances before he was fired, and it's "best for business" for him to fulfill his remaining dates. When they sign an indy talent, they let that talent do the shows they had been previously signed for if it all possible. I think it's the same situation here.

6. It could be a rib of some kind. Or maybe they just like having a Harvard-educated star in the signature?

More wrestling tomorrow.
