WWE Capitol Punishment preview

Because of the holiday, I'll be rather busy today, so I thought I'd go ahead and get this up to make sure it gets posted before the PPV starts. Tonight, John Cena defends the WWE championship against R-Truth and Randy Orton clashes with Christian once more for the World Heavyweight gold. Read on for how I'd book the show.

First off, how'd we end up with 5 matches on the Raw side and only 2 from Smackdown? No Mark Henry, Sheamus, DiBiase, Rhodes, Bryan, Sin Cara, Divas, or Jinder Mahal when all of those people have been featured regularly on the show. Weird. Let's change that up a bit:

At some point during the show, Theodore Long is in his office chatting it up with William Regal about him being a fan of his work and how glad he is that he's a part of Smackdown now. Jinder Mahal and The Great Khali interrupt and brush off Regal. Mahal talks about how Teddy isn't going to be able to do any sort of Khali Kiss Cam or anything tonight, because that's not who Khali is any more, etc.. Regal's upset that he was interrupted, and explains to Mahal who he is and what he's done in the business. Long tells them to take it outside. This leads to a story developing on Smackdown in the weeks to come where Regal tries to prove that he "still has it" against the rude up-and-comer. The idea is to continue testing the waters with Mahal and seeing how much he can improve, etc.

Later on, do a brief segment where Natalya's talking to AJ and Kaitlyn backstage about staying strong and keeping focused, then their (and the camera's) focus goes elsewhere because of the commotion between Mahal, Khali, and Regal's shouting match outside Long's office. Mahal and Khali leave voluntarily after security gets involved. The segment ends with one of Regal's trademark "besmirched" expressions.

After Long dismisses those , he turns to see Rhodes and DiBiase. They're upset at the ending to the match Friday night where the referee blew the call, and demand it to be reversed. No dice. Instead, there'll be a rematch tonight (playa, holla, etc). Another blown call, this time on Rhodes. They're understandably upset. On Raw they have a rematch in the viewers' choice of a losers wear paper bags match, strap match (tag the corners style), or a no-countout match (did I mention that I'm awful at coming up with match stipulations?) which ends with a third blown call. This time they get really riled up and react by knocking down the referee. On Smackdown, they're levied a fine for their actions. In the weeks to come, we continue the two sides having singles matches, with Rhodes and DiBiase taking out referees when they get frustrated. They get bigger fines and even a threat of suspension. The feud ends with Long as referee giving Bryan and Cara a legitimate win. This all ties into next month's Money In the Bank match featuring the 4 of them, and the former Corre members.

Punk vs. Mysterio's a tricky one to book, because we don't know how Punk's contract status. So, I'm going with a number of possible endings:
If Punk's staying for the foreseeable future (i.e. at least through Summerslam),Rey wins via superior experience, technique and speed, but Nexus takes him out afterward. On Raw, there are 3 singles matches between Rey's team of Santino, Kozlov, and Chris Masters up against Punk's team of Otunga, McGillicutty, and Ryan. The fans choose who faces who (for the first match they have say, Santino, and the fans choose one of the 3 to face him. Then for match 2 the fans decide one of the other 2 to face Kozlov, leaving Masters to get whomever's left) and whichever side wins the most matches decides the stipulation for their match at Money In The Bank. Rey picks a cage match (so Nexus can't get involved).

If Punk's leaving immediately after Money In The Bank, do the same thing without Nexus beating down Rey afterward. Rey chooses a loser leaves WWE match.

If Punk's leaving before Money In The Bank, Rey wins on Sunday then on Raw the fans choose what sort of match the two of them will have. The options are "if Rey loses, he loses his mask", "if Rey loses, he has to face all the members of New Nexus next week" and "if Punk loses, he leaves WWE". What, that's fair, right? Seriously, that's a tough one to book. I don't want Punk to just "quit" in an angle, and I don't really want Nexus to injure him, so I'm a bit stumped.

Kofi retains over Ziggler. Ziggler's upset over this and we get some time in the weeks to come of him trying to get his career back on track. Talk about someone who's stuck in a rut. On Raw, since we've got 3 freakin' hours to fill, they bring back the Championship Scramble. This time it's made perfectly clear that whoever scores the last pinfall or submission walks out with the title. None of this "temporary champion" ridiculousness. Kofi, Dolph, Evan, Swagger, and McIntyre- Kofi retains. Dolph isn't involved in the final pinfall. More upsetness, which he takes out backstage by shoving a certain someone filming his YouTube show. Ryder turns face in a somewhat different manner than on the last episode of that show. Raw's Money In The Bank is the five men in the Scramble, Zack Ryder, John Morrison, and (after checking Raw's roster) we'll go with Tyler Reks getting another look. Can you tell one of my pet peeves is them having people they aren't using?

Alex Riley surprises Miz to get the win. Not an "out of nowhere, this loser beat Miz" win but a "he caught Miz offguard and was on his A-game" win. Come to think of it, A-Game would be a cool finisher name... Miz is shocked at this, and the feud continues at least through a Money In The Bank rematch.

Ezekiel Jackson wins the Intercontinental Championship. No run-ins, no post-match beatdowns, no swerves; just Big Zeke getting the better of Wade. Wade shouldn't look weak or anything here (he's my pick to win MITB), but Zeke should get a nice rub from the win.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Big Show ends prematurely when Show is arrested for what he did to Ricardo Rodriguez and to Del Rio's car. Del Rio paid off the cops to arrest him, and he wails on a cuffed Show. Not sure what they'd need to use for handcuffs on Show's massive wrists, though! I guess they could just use a chain and lock. Or maybe they try handcuffs, he breaks out of them and tries to get at Del Rio, but they take him down and use the chain and lock to keep his arms behind his back while they keep him down and Del Rio stomps on him.

Orton retains against a desperate Christian. After he does so, Sheamus stands on the ramp with a heavily bandaged head (the results from Friday's punt) and points to the ring. The announcers speculate that he's looking for the next title shot now that Christian's been beaten.

R-Truth is way too entertaining in his role to lose this one: He pulls out all of his crazy to win the WWE Title. He basically tries to hold it hostage in the weeks to come, but Cena eventually gets his rematch at Money In The Bank. From there we get Morrison winning the Raw briefcase and suckering R-Truth into a title match at Summerslam where he doesn't actually use his guaranteed contract.

And that's that. This one took some time to come up with! I'll be back later tonight to discuss how the show actually goes down. Thanks for reading!
