Raw thoughts- 6/27/11

Tonight Raw emanates from Las Vegas, and WWE's bringing back Raw Roulette for the occasion. Anything and everything can go down on the show tonight. Already announced for the card is a match we were supposed to get last week: Evan Bourne vs. Sin Cara in a clash of high-flying daredevils. Not to mention that tonight we see the WWE return of the one-and-only Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels! All this and more is upcoming. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.
Oh boy, Booker's doing the roulette wheel. I might have gone with Scott Stanford, but that works, too I guess. Obviously the GM can't do it.

Wow, they're starting out with a bang all right.

Yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing HBK come back full time.

Yay, C.M. Punk interruption!

That's the first I've heard of an injury to Ryan. Doesn't make it automatically false, though.

Punk's amazing on the mic.

I guess someone had to take Sweet Chin Music tonight. At least it wasn't Punk.

Going from a segment with Shawn Michaels to one with Booker T. Didn't really see that happening in 2011.

That was a nice opening segment setting up what should be a good match as far as styles clashing goes.

Punk's had an awesome WWE career. I've enjoyed him ever since his ECW brand debut.

This one's a little hard to book: You've got a wrestler who could very well be taking a good deal of time off against a guy whose career is almost certainly winding down. That's about the best they could do without using New Nexus.

Hopefully R-Truth can stay important without being in the title picture. It'll be interesting to see how over he and Morrison will be when they feud.

Hopefully this doesn't end up getting a dumb stipulation.

At least it wasn't Blindfold or Pillow Fight or something.

I like the little intros Cole gave for Bourne and Cara.

These guys can MOVE.

Plenty of crazy moves in this match. These kinds of matches are fun every once in a while when they're given a fair amount of time and aren't just move after move after move.

Remember when Kofi was knocking on the door of main event level? What happened there? Thankfully he's only 29 so they've got time for him to grow as a performer before trying that again.

That match works. A little convenient that it ended up going that way.

No qualifying matches? Interesting. That's an good line-up, but I figured they'd go with some different choices. saving some of those guys for singles matches (Riley-Miz, Del Rio vs. Big Show).

Good match as always from Kofi and Dolph.

Del Rio vs. Big Show is a PPV-level match.

I lost track of who Maryse was "with" on NXT.

Wow, really? That should be at Money In The Bank, not given an hour's build or less on Raw.

This has got to have some kind of BS finish or run in, right? They're really just using this to build to the MITB ladder match?

Nice killer instinct from Del Rio.

HERE we go. Getting flashbacks to the time Henry tried to break into a cage on Smackdown and couldn't break the lock (or something). Thankfully the announcers were able to cover it up (or at least I didn't suspect anything as a non-smart fan).

I wish he would have done that BEFORE Del Rio got superplexed so ADR didn't look as weak. Fine with this angle, though.

That was an awesome spot. They better play the crap out of that in the days and weeks to come and not have Big Show just shrug it off and be back uninjured within a week.

Kelly vs. Brie is saved for the PPV but Del Rio vs. Show in a cage gets a commercial break worth of build? Wow.

Hahahahahahaha. Yeah, this will be a classic submission contest.

Well, that was a bit better than I expected.

When's the last time the Divas' Champion was on Smackdown? Obviously they've already got a storyline going over there, so I can see why they haven't done it, but you'd be forgiven for forgetting that the champion can appear on either brand.

I liked the package on Andy going to FCW. Surely there were plenty of people wondering where the heck he went. FCW's only on the air in Florida (naturally) but there are generally clips of some of the matches on YouTube.

Mysterio, Booker, and DDP all in one segment? This show's full of surprises tonight. I expected them to do more with DDP than have him randomly show up backstage.

I wonder how many people watching Raw don't know who DDP is (I don't remember the last time he was on WWE TV outside of the ads for Nitro's DVD).

Drew McIntyre. Former Intercontinental Champion and "Chosen One". Now a background guy on Raw and Superstars. He's going to drop down to needing a YouTube show to get over if they keep going at this rate.

Riley could use another boost in credibility if they want to keep him as a semi-important face.

WWE's Facebook gets some WEIRD comments sometimes. And you thought YouTube comments were out there.

Tornado matches get pretty chaotic, hence the name.

I thought I had escaped Mania's theme song, but apparently not.

They're doing a mostly good job with Swagger and Riley in this match with the more established performers.

Pretty solid match.

Wow, those are some old school cage matches. Some of my favorites involve Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle, but I'm not so sure those will end up on the DVD.

Orton vs. Mark Henry? That should be something to see.

Punk should cost Cena this match. R-Truth needs the win more than Cena does.

I just noticed that Booker could have done something similar to this earlier in his career, since he's known for doing Spinaroonies and the like.

Punk's wearing a Stone Cold shirt? Interesting and awesome all the same.

Called it. That was the right move. I didn't necessarily expect it though.

Worked shoot time! Didn't expect some of those names being dropped.

Wow. Wow.

If this was all planned, they did a heck of a job making it look like he was going "off-script".

Buzzworthy ending for sure. The net's going to be on fire after that one.

That's all for Raw tonight. I'll be back for NXT tomorrow, and a news post will be up shortly after midnight. Thanks for reading!
