Query on Sin Cara, Punk MMA appearance nixed, National Guard meets Kofi, Ryder band makes deal with WWE, Questions on Bryan the Wolverine, Jericho, Twitter, and the WWE Network, Daniel Bryan Day in Washington, AJ update, new WWE trademark, update on RVD and other TNA house show notes, WWE house show notes including a surprise competitor, Hudson talks WWE and Otunga, and WWE looks for a new announcer

Today's news begins with a query:
1. Sin Cara is still out injured. It will be a number of months before he's back in the picture. I wouldn't expect him until after WrestleMania.

C.M. Punk won't escort a top MMA fighter to the cage after all. This was apparently a Vince McMahon decision. Hypothetically that would have gotten some MMA fans curious about WWE, and been a potential way to increase the number of people watching the product!

Update: It could have had something to do with Punk being scheduled to do a live event that day. He asked for the night off from that event, possibly after he had given the ok to Sonnen. I can see how they'd be ticked off at the WWE Champion missing one of their events to appear for the UFC. That'd be kind of a tough call in some ways.

Kofi Kingston met with members of the Yakima National Guard and their families in Washington state ahead of a live event there. Good move by the company. Despite the typo, he's still one of the Tag Team Champions.

The band that does the song that plays during the "Broski of the Week" segment on Zack Ryder's YouTube show have worked out a deal with WWE for that song to play on WWE programming. That's pretty cool! I'm intrigued with how they'll work in Ryder's show and the TV product.

After the break, I go into the rest of the day's news and notes, starting with PWInsider.com's questions. First up, how should WWE market Daniel Bryan?

1. With all due respect to Bryan, I agree that he doesn't have that level of intensity. Very talented performer, but I don't know if that would fit him. Some of that feeling could be my "nostalgia goggles" making me think Benoit was more intense than he really was, but I remember him as a very vicious wrestling machine, and we're not seeing that from Bryan right now. Hopefully they can come up with something good for him, though, so this World Title reign won't look like a fluke.

2. I'm sure it was a shock to some, but a lot of fans "in the know" weren't surprised, and at that point had almost become "over" the fact that he'd be back in the fold soon. Sometimes I think some fans are almost too smart for their own good and it hurts their enjoyment of things.

3. I'd be ok with that with one rule: the "WWE sponsored account" would use their character name, while their personal account would use their real name and wouldn't be promoted by the company in any way, shape, or form. It wouldn't have to be private (or protected in Twitter lingo), but it wouldn't be a place for attention to be drawn away from the character account. Obviously WWE can't force them to go that route, but it would be ideal. I personally find it a little odd that some performers have both names on the same account.

4. It could just be that there weren't enough people aware of them.

5. I'm cautiously optimistic and think it will be at least partially successful. This isn't something they're doing spur of the moment, and it's an expansion of the WWE moreso than an odd spin-off like the XFL so maybe things will do well. I'd look more along the lines of WWE Films, which has at least lasted a decent time without being a total flop (and they're not giving up on it).

In a move that gets Mayor Micah Cawley props from me, Friday was declared to be "Daniel Bryan Day" in Yakima, Washington. Bryan is from nearby Aberdeen, and crossed brands to appear on the Raw live event in the city on Friday. WWE.com ran a story on that announcement, wisely acting as if the actions on Smackdown actually were on Friday. Cool from everyone. Being World Champion has its perks!

Speaking of Daniel Bryan and AJ, WWE.com ran a story on her condition and put out some questions of who could be considered at fault. Smart move and a good article, though I think if she was "really injured" they would have led with more about her predicament. She was carried out on a stretcher after all. Also, I'm glad she's getting a chance to be in the spotlight. Very talented performer in and out of the ring (with some solid speaking and expression skills). I hope we see bright things in her future.

WWE has registered to trademark "Funkasaurus". As much of a gamble as they're taking with the gimmick, I hope they do make money off of merchandise for him.

Rob Van Dam worked a TNA live event in New York, so it's possible that he'll be back on TV soon after his "injury" from Gunner.

At that same house show, Tommy Dreamer and Chef Robert Irvine (Gail Kim's fiancee) were spotted. I'd assume they were just visiting unless something comes out stating otherwise.

Speaking of house shows/live events, Daniel Bryan's opponent in Washington was WWE producer Jamie Noble. No word on whether this was a one-time thing or not. I always thought he was a talented performer as well.

Ryback (formerly Skip Sheffield) worked that event as well, defeating Jamie Noble. Brodus Clay defeated Tyler Reks, so it looks like he might be an official member of the Raw roster (?). The brand extension gets more confusing every week.

Jennifer Hudson discussed her fiancee's career and a little more in the way of wrestling talk on Jay Leno's show. Part 1 Part 2 Kind of a funny appearance. I'd love Otunga to use that line about having the same background as Obama.

Finally, WWE is looking for someone to promote live events in commercials. If someone like Scott Stanford wasn't busy already, I think he'd be great as the go-to guy for that.

That's all for Saturday's news. More to come tomorrow. Thanks for ready!
