TNA Genesis thoughts

It's the first TNA PPV of 2012 and anything can happen. Bobby Roode defends his World Heavyweight Championship against the Charismatic Enigma Jeff Hardy. The Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle goes one-on-one with James Storm. Abyss goes up against Bully Ray in a Monster's Ball match where membership in Immortal is at stake. And those are just the top 3 matches! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

So far, so good with the opening and entrances. You never know when things will start to make you want to pound your head on the keyboard.

Smart by Aries.

Good opening sequences from everyone.

And we're going into "check out all the cool moves we can do" territory.

Oh, this is an elimination match? Whoops.

My "lolTNA" sense is tingling with these referee spots.

Jesus. That looked pretty painful.

Not a bad opener as far as (somewhat) spotfests go. Aries holding onto the title is somewhat surprising, but it looks like they're building him up pretty well (so when he does lose, it means something).

D'Angelo Dinero's just a total dick at this point. I like it. It's rare that you get characters this jerk-like these days.

Devon's pretty fired up here. I like it.

I'm already hating the Tebow fad. Way to take me out of the match and remind me of something unrelated to the feud.

Vicious offense from Pope.

Didn't see that one coming. I thought they were pretty solidly behind Dinero.

Pretty good match. I don't even have much of a problem with Devon winning (and possibly ending the feud) since he's still in pretty good shape and is motivated to be a good performer. Dinero didn't really look bad in the loss.

I'm slightly worried about this Velvet Touch thing but we'll see where it goes.

It's an RVD match... time for using your favorite banned substances!

As much as I want to dislike RVD for being arrogant, he can still do some damn impressive stuff in the ring.

Good psychology by Gunner.

I wonder if anti-Cena fans dislike RVD's moves of doom as well?

OH $&@#*&! RVD took the loss. I'm pleasantly surprised, since he went over Daniels last month and didn't go out to Gunner on Thursday.

A stretcher job and everything! Maybe RVD's on his way out after all.

They're really pushing this Biblical thing with Hardy (the former "anti-Christ of professional wrestling").

Why, TNA? Why must you continue to use such stupid things?

Gail and Mickie have been impressive lately. WWE should be ashamed.

Nice stuff from a wrestling standpoint.

God, that was terrible. So much good in the ring and they blow it with that stupid ending.

Haha, great Bully Ray promo. I wonder if that was a little inside joke about him being called a rip off of a rip off of Terry Funk (Foley).

Abyss is basically a horror movie villain at this point. How the heck is anyone going to beat him if all these weapons have no effect? Bobby Roode better watch out.

Jesus. Abyss must be some kind of masochist.

Hell, BOTH men must be pretty close to indestructible to survive all of this.

Carnage. Carnage everywhere. That was more of a demolition derby than a match, but props to both men for taking that level of punishment. I just hope we're not in for a "can you top this?" series of people beating the ever-loving crap out of each other in place of storytelling.

Looking forward to this tag match. They've done a pretty good job setting it up as a match with 4 serious competitors.

Damn good tag match so far. Everyone's looking like credible performers.

Oh, God. It's not over? Ray and Abyss should be getting checked out by trainers after that clash. When is enough enough?

Impressive performances by all four men. It might not be a "traditional" tag team division, but the story of champions and challengers has been good lately.

Very solid promo from Storm. Definitely not a PG character but he plays his role incredibly well. You can tell it's not something he was "given" by Creative to be.

This is a good story between a veteran who can still go and a future headliner.

Sometimes less is more in a match like this. You don't need fancy moves and weapons to tell a great story if you're a truly great worker.

Storm's showing he's got what it takes to be one of the top names in TNA here. Angle's solid tonight as always, too.

Wow. They had a really good match going and they blew it with a let-down ending. I'm fine with heels cheating and all, but that felt really out of nowhere instead of being built to.

I think I've kind of had my fill of Bully and Abyss facing off. What else is there for them to do to each other?

Solid Bobby Roode promo. I REALLY hope he's going over tonight. He's earned it.

Pretty good so far, despite the contrasting styles.

Good back and forth battle.

Clever strategy by Roode.

Thank goodness it's not over.

Ok, that got kind of stupid. False finishes shouldn't kill momentum.

Hmm... kind of a downer ending. I think they could have done better.

All in all, kind of a mixed bag PPV. Mostly good, but there were some parts that didn't go off as well as they probably should have. There's certainly been worse from TNA in the past, but this was still kind of a letdown in places.

That's all for Genesis thoughts. I'll be back for Raw tomorrow. A news post will be up later tonight. Thanks for reading!
