DJ Z promotes return, NXT name working Smackdown shows, WWE seeking hire, WWE looking at potential Cena paths, WWE expanding to new social media platform, Summerslam quest, Interview with Natalya, Alberto update, NJPW names working ROH TV, new WotW UK match, MYC name making NXT debut, Summerslam weekend signings, Smackdown audience, another Network show dropped, X-Division conference call, Hogan trademark opposed, NXT name back in action, and Questions on wrestlers working stiff, independent contractors, using single names in WWE, and WWE dropping pyro

DJ Z made a mini-documentary on his injury and recovery. That's pretty cool. I hope he's got a big career ahead of him.

Tian Bing is advertised for Smackdown's Japanese tour next month. I hope he's progressing well in NXT.

WWE is seeking a temporary social video producer in conjunction with NBCU. They cut a lot of social media people around the time of Wrestlemania.

WWE is gauging interest in John Cena accomplishments, including King of the Ring returning and facing Undertaker at Wrestlemania. Bringing back KOTR just to have Cena win it seems like a waste. That honor should be for someone coming up the card. Cena vs. Taker would definitely be big. That's the only match I think Taker should come back for, although I'd consider Taker vs. Angle.

WWE seems to be pushing a Chinese social media platform. That would theoretically give WWE further push into that country, which is a big priority for them.

Jon Jones is teasing appearing at Summerslam to continue angling for a bout with Brock Lesnar.

Natalya gave a big interview on a lot of topics. She's had quite the run in WWE. I'm glad she's getting a big spotlight at Summerslam.

Alberto El Patron is expected back for Destination X and the tapings after it. So, GFW likely won't have to make any major changes to their plans.

Rocky Romero and the Guerrillas of Destiny have been booked for ROH's August 26 TV taping. There will be a lot of crossover in a pretty quick time frame for ROH.

Tetsuya Naito, BUSHI & SANADA vs. KUSHIDA, Mistico & Titan has been booked for War of the Worlds UK on August 20.

Kairi Sane is scheduled to work this weekend's NXT live events in Florida, so she's been cleared to return to action. It's just a matter of time before MYC competitors pop up on NXT TV.

WWE has set up signings at local Toys 'R' Us stores during Summerslam weekend. Hitting that PG market hard!

Smackdown drew 2.59 million viewers this week, up a bit from the previous week. That's a good sign for Jinder vs. Shinsuke.

WWE Network has canceled NXT Insider after a brief run. They're really cutting back on expenses as a result of underwhelming profit margins. It remains to be seen if any releases will be part of that process.

GFW had an X-Division-themed conference call:
- I'm liking these, getting GFW's name out there for something other than Alberto or the Hardys.

- I especially love when people do these in kayfabe.

- Ki vs. Dutt was definitely really solid. God knows we've seen plenty of meaningless spotfests.

- The Broken stuff was a nice change of pace. Wrestling needs that sometimes.

- I do wonder how many current GFW names wish they were getting the opportunities guys like AJ and Joe are getting.

- I wish Low Ki would have gotten further in WWE.

- Hahahaha they're putting over people under contract to their competitors. That's not a good sign.

- GFW definitely needs to get the "bad taste" of past regimes out of people's minds.

- Way to spoil Low Ki's involvement at D-X. I think that direction makes sense. Save Option C for next year or when there's a good reason to do it.

- I totally expect a World X Cup down the line. GFW (Impact) vs. NOAH vs. AAA vs. Crash is a no-brainer if the Mexican companies are OK with it.

- I love Trevor putting himself over. This is great.

- Sonjay got a big rub recently.

- Sonjay can be a key player going forward with his backstage duties.

- I think Sonjay didn't want to move his family to Orlando to take the WWEPC job.

- I think WWE could have done the Jinder title reign either way. They've been wanting to be a bigger deal in India independently of GFW's plans there.

- But GFW's only been around 15 years and Ki has already left them several times?

- I'm curious how far Ki can go in GFW. D-X is going to be a big show.

- Ki is something else.

- I wonder what GFW thinks of them putting over names from other promotions?

- Davey went out on a high note. That feud with Eddie was glorious.

- It's going to be tough to compete with other companies' similar options to the X-Division.

Hulk Hogan and his company are being opposed in their effort to trademark the name "Thunderlips," Hulk's character in the Rocky franchise. Movie studio MGM owns all the rights to that film franchise. They're alleging fraud for Hogan's attempts to trademark something they own.

Eric Young returned to the ring for NXT in California, teaming with Alexander Wolfe against the Authors of Pain in a match that ended in a DQ for SAnitY. I'm glad he's back.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. A lot of wrestlers wanted/want to show they're real badasses who are the toughest people in THIS BUSINESS and deserve a push more than their opponents, so they do that kind of thing. It's not as common in the sports entertainment era, thank goodness. Now that it's open that it's just a TV show, fewer people feel the need to go that route.

2. Basically no one's gotten together to form a union or sue to change it in fear of being blackballed from the industry. WWE's got lawyers to protect them from any attempt before it can be a problem.

3. Wrestling's got its own set of rules going on it seems, as far as athletes vs. actors. That's fair in one sense, as wrestling's a pretty unique property. I don't know if SAG or anything else would want to be part of the business anyway.

4. It's a case-by-case thing. I think it's more impactful in a lot of cases for someone to just have one name. It's a TV show with characters anyway, not a sport.

5. The main thing is that they have to have separate staff to do the pyrotechnics. So, if they cut it entirely, that's fewer people and less equipment they have to use.

More wrestling tomorrow.
