Main Event:
Other than some of the comedy, the opening segment was pretty good. I hope Rhodes can gain some momentum down the line.
Not a bad opening match at all. Rhodes put up a good enough fight that the clean loss doesn't really hurt him. It does pretty much keep him in the same place, though.
I liked Sandow's promo. He's a pretty good talker.
Interesting to have such a quick match between Bryan and Sandow as I'm sure that could have been really good if they were given more time. Hopefully we get a rematch.
Interesting Divas segment. I guess they need all hands on deck with some of the departures they've had.
Not a bad Divas match. It's going to take more than that to make the division credible again, though.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
TNA will do two episodes of Impact at a time when they go on the road: one live and one taped. That makes sense.
The Big O, of Z! True Long Island Story fame, was in TNA Gut Check in Fayetteville, NC.
Mia Svensson (Desiree Snow) and Kacee Carlisle worked on a recent TNA tour. I like that TNA's looking for some fresh blood.
Bruno Sammartino and Triple H talked to WWE.com. It will be interesting to see how Triple H's old-school approach holds up. He's made some signings that are more known for their "highlight reel" qualities.
Rocky Johnson also talked. Very inspiring story!
Here's a trailer for "Wrestling's Most Botched". Looks good.
Antonio Inoki was interviewed.
Pierre Carl Ouellet talked about becoming a champion in wrestling. He makes solid points. I'd recommend this to anyone in the big 2. Obviously it's easier said than done, though.
While TNA will tape its major PPVs on the road, its "One Night Only" shows will stay in Orlando.
Here are highlights from a recent Velvet Sky interview. I think she would have done well in WWE. I don't think they should do the Beautiful People without Angelina.
It's all but confirmed that WrestleMania 30 will be in New Orleans. A good choice. I'm glad they're not doing it at MSG given some of the reactions they get there.
Triple H and John Cena are advertised for the first Smackdown after WrestleMania. It'll be interesting to see where those two are after the big event.
The dark match before Smackdown was Bo Dallas defeating Corey Graves in a match-up of NXT stars. I think we'll see both get some decent TV time in 2013.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I think Punk and The Rock represent two different viewpoints on how to run WWE. Punk's the guy who's putting his body on the line all year and delivering amazing work. The Rock has definitely still got "it" in and outside of the ring but he doesn't work live events or every Raw like Punk does. Plus he could very well just be around until Mania's over. But, he brings a LOT of attention and viewers to TV and PPVs so I think it's worth it.
2. So, no, they lost $12 million on it. Late-era WCW wasn't exactly known for things that made money.
3. Thank you! Parts of Rock's promos come across like they were written by someone who wants to be doing comedy instead of wrestling. Punk's promos are straight from the heart about pro wrestling. Rock's got a ton of charisma, but some of the lines they either feed him or he comes up with are lame. But, yeah, his character is a lot about goofing off for the crowd.
4. What does it say about how good Punk's run was that people are thinking of ways to put the title back on him? As much as I'd like to see Rock vs. Lesnar again, I don't have a problem with the direction they're going. Though I still like my idea of Sheamus stepping up to the plate to challenge Lesnar like he did to Mark henry. Lesnar humbled HHH at Summerslam. I'm not sure why we should believe that he'll fare better this time.
5. Vince and Dana White are on good terms, so it's possible that they cross-promote. That said, there is a pretty big divide between fans of each product and a lot of them don't like there to be any mixing of the two. To me it's a bit like advertising the Red Sox during a Yankees game.
More wrestling tomorrow.
