The Rock's shout-out to Jeff Jarrett was a nod to their days in the USWA. Pretty interesting that the WWE Champion acknowledged a top TNA executive on the air and on Twitter. Of course, The Rock can do pretty much what he wants to.
Kaitlyn vs. Tamina for the Divas' Title and Antonio Cesaro vs. The Miz for the United States Title have been added to Elimination Chamber. The pre-show will have the recently "broken up" Rhodes Scholars teaming against Brodus Clay and Tensai. They're treating the Divas' division as something of an afterthought here. Kaitlyn vs. Tamina could be a pretty good feud if they gave it TV time and character development. Instead, it's just thrown out there without much meaning (and presumably a lot of people have no idea that it's even going on). And they need to make up their minds on Rhodes Scholars being together or not, unless this is some kind of weird angle where they're teaming up even though they said they split. Not that I have any complaints about them being a team again. Talented guys.
After Raw, Damien Sandow cut a promo on the people in Nashville for cheering for The Rock. He ate a Rock Bottom and People's Elbow. Then John Cena and Rock had a staredown. The dark main event was John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler, which Cena won. For once I'm not really upset with Sandow and Ziggler losing since they want Cena and Rock to look strong and this was off the air.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Though The Undertaker was in Nashville for the Predators game on Sunday, he was not backstage at Raw. very interesting. I don't want to assume anything at this stage, though.
JBL is leaving after next week's TV tapings to attempt to climb Mount Aconcagua. It's unknown if he'll miss any TV time and if so, who would replace him. I'd like to see William Regal do color like he does in NXT. A lot of time his insight is pretty valuable. I don't like the whole "announcers bicker over the action" approach WWE is fond of.
James Jefferson, known as Spike of the Mod Squad, has passed away. Here's the obituary. It's never good to report a story like this.
Bully Ray has stated that he might have partially torn a quadriceps muscle in Europe. This could be a storyline. He's one of the top workers in TNA, so I hope he's ok.
There's no update on the return of voting for TNA Gut Check. I really like that idea, so I hope that's fixed soon.
Raw's audience dropped to 4.26 million, which is a shame because it was a pretty good show all around.
Rey Mysterio is advertised to work against C.M. Punk on live events after Elimination Chamber. Which makes sense since The Undertaker won't be working those shows. I assume Cena's facing Ziggler? They run into this problem when top names don't work live events, though it can easily be argued that guys like Taker and Rock have earned the right to choose when they work. The thing is, Ziggler's been bested by Cena so many times that it's hard for him to look like a threat.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I know they'd still get a pop on TV and they've still got "it", so I wouldn't mind them being back on TV IF they were used in a way that elevated the current stars. Both Outlaws have backstage duties and those might take precedence.
2. As they said, he's working Mania at the least. So they'll have something for him.
3. I have wondered that at times. Their reason makes sense. I can just imagine some of the Tweets he'd get!
4. I've wondered this, too! It's nice to know that there's at least that much camaraderie.
5. A big correction here. Rock's 40! I don't think we'll see the last of him at WM29, though currently I don't believe he's scheduled for anything past the week after that date. I wonder who else he'll work with. Cena and Punk are the only full-time acts who are treated like they're in his league. Rock vs. Brock would be amazing, but kind of short-sighted. Ziggler could try to make a name for himself by taking him on, though they'd need to boost his credibility for it to be even remotely even.
More wrestling tomorrow.
