Main Event Reax - 1/22/14, Payback note, various TNA publicity and notes, how the Rumble got started, LeBron thanks Rock, Paige update, Interviews with Flair/Batista/Miz+Ziggler/Bryan, Young laid to rest, WWE going live Down Under, Rumble teases and Questions on Old School Raw, must-see PPVs, a mandatory retirement age, Network availability and Jim Johnston

Main Event:
I think it's time for something new for Damien Sandow. The character hasn't really progressed in some time now.

I enjoyed Sandow vs. Truth. Sandow stepped up his game there.

That Divas segment was better than no segment at all, and it did reinforce the Bryan angle.

Not a bad Divas match, but it didn't really accomplish all that much. The division can definitely use some shaking up. Hopefully Emma's arrival will change things, though I think a title change is in order as well. Unless they have something really awesome planned for AJ to drop the strap at Mania.

Del Rio vs. Cara was really awesome. Hunico's really taking the ball and running with it. Del Rio's definitely not dead in the water, even after taking a Batista Bomb on Monday.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

There's speculation of this year's Payback being the last time C.M. Punk wrestles for WWE in Chicago. His contract expires in July. He's taken a lot of bumps in his career, so he very well might be looking to give his body a break by then.

Jeremy Borash was on "Dinner Impossible Live", which makes sense given how the host is married to Gail Kim.

Rockstar Spud will appear in the UK ahead of his TNA commitments. I assume Dixie's faction will feud with Kurt Angle next.

Zema Ion was on "Oddities", buying a human tongue on the Science Channel show. I'd rather not know why he went that route.

TNA is still selling AJ Styles merchandise at live events, presumably because they still have some in stock. Styles continues to take bookings unaffiliated with TNA, and it's considered unlikely that he'll return.

OVW has removed the TNA logo from their website. TNA's doing their training in-house now.

WWE.com looked at the origin of the Royal Rumble. It doesn't sound like it would work that well on paper (30 people in one match!?), but it's one of my favorite match types for sure.

LeBron James publicly thanked The Rock for getting him a WWE Championship. That's pretty awesome.

NXT Women's Champion Paige has returned to training. Great news. I wonder how she feels about Summer Rae and Emma being called up before her.

Triple H was instrumental in getting Ric Flair back in WWE. He's had to keep himself in check after the WWE 2K14 appearance. Flair pulled out of a previous engagement to do the Rumble PPV panel. I hope he can remain on his best behavior.

Update: Flair was interviewed about his time in North Korea for WCW. Flair's not one to shy away from an idea just because it's crazy.

Mae Young's funeral services have been completed. It's still mind-blowing that she wrestled in nine decades.

WWE Raw will now be shown live in Australia, which is pretty cool.

A number of talents are teasing entering Sunday's Royal Rumble. They better check with Kane, Brad Maddox, Vickie Guerrero, etc. to see if they're booked.

Batista was interviewed about his return. I'm glad WWE's putting more emphasis on conditioning than just having a big look.

Raw hit 4.87 million viewers, the highest mark since March. Did Batista's return have anything to do with that? YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The Miz and Dolph Ziggler were interviewed for "WWE Night" in Cleveland. Concussions are no joke. I actually enjoyed Miz's WWE Title reign, though I wish he would have been booked better. As for the Y2J situation, he was the UNDISPUTED Champion, not the UNIFIED Champion.

Daniel Bryan gave a pretty in-depth interview, highlighted here. WWE definitely sees money in Bryan (hence the myriad Bryan merchandise). They just don't see him as a top guy in the vein of a John Cena. They could certainly do a better job of him being pushed as a top guy, but it's not like they're oblivious to how over he is. He's not in the same place on the card as Dolph Ziggler. They've given him a spotlight - just not the same kind of spotlight they usually put on someone like Cena, Batista, Brock, etc. And there's a difference between the crowd showing support for Bryan and wanting him in the main event picture vs. some of the chants they do just to look smart ("Husky Harris" and "Goldberg" chants, for instance).

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. It's probably easier for them to keep using the same names. They need to plan the Old School theme out further in advance so they can pick up some names we don't see all the time.

2. For historical reasons, WCW Starrcade '97 and WrestleMania III are pretty notable. WrestleMania 17's considered one of the best cards ever if that's your deal.

3. No. I think it should be a case-by-case basis. I'm not a fan of overly broad rules in general.

4. There are plenty of options to get the Network on. If a PS3 is someone's cup of tea or best option, that's better than not getting any WWE Network.

5. Absolutely he should go in the Hall of Fame. No questions asked. As for an inductor, that's an interesting one. I wonder who he's done the most themes for? Jimmy Hart would be my pick given Hart's music work in WCW, but by no means is that guaranteed to be the "best" pick.

More wrestling tomorrow.
