NXT and ROH Reax - 9/9/15

Read on for my thoughts on last night's NXT and ROH.
NXT:
- Carmella vs. Peyton:
If Carmella could wrestle as good as she looks, she'd really be an asset in the ring. Not sure how good she really needs to be if she'll primarily be a valet and can get more training on the main roster. It shouldn't stop them from calling up Enzo & Cass.

Peyton's got some personality already.

Why are they putting two inexperienced names together? That's a recipe for a clunky match.

I think it was too soon to pair these two on TV. They should both be working with Divas who have a better grasp on what they're doing. That's not a knock on either performer; they're just both early in their development. Why not have Blue Pants or an experienced local star face Peyton instead?

Balor vs. Joe at the UK Takeover special needs to happen.

It's pretty cool to have live event matches matter for the Dusty Classic.

Very excited for Gargano and Ciampa in NXT. I've seen a grand total of one match from Ciampa, since I generally don't watch "indie" wrestling outside of my recent foray into ROH.

- Breeze/Dempsey vs. Gargano/Ciampa:
Gargano and Ciampa seem like an odd combination, but both men's reputations precede them.

I like the team of Breeze and Dempsey. They can play off each other well, I think.

Oh, this Gargano guy's good. Very slick with his moves.

And Ciampa's got potential, too.

Gargano's definitely worth taking a deeper look at.

Good match overall. I'm excited to see more from the indie guys.

Hopefully Breeze and Dempsey are on the rise, too.

Kalisto's English is quite good. I hope he can catch on like Rey did.

Dana Brooke shows signs of potential, but is still kind of awkward in promos.

Tye Dillinger is OK, from what I've seen so far.

Wow, they're definitely focused on new Divas tonight.

- Brooke vs. Kay:
Dana has personality in her body language. That's important.

Billie Kay's still a little tentative. We'll see what she does going forward.

Dana's definitely athletic. If she can sharpen up in other areas, she should have a solid future.

I do like Dana using her powerful legs as weapons. That's smart wrestling.

OK match between the two trainees. It takes time to get to the level of those who graduated to the main roster.

Crews is already confident on the mic, and really solid in the ring. This guy's got a future.

I like them using dark matches for the Dusty Classic. It looks like a big deal for NXT people to compete on a bigger stage.

- Balor/Joe vs. Lucha Dragons:
The match just started!! Hold off on the "This is awesome" chants.

Balor should be just fine on the main roster, other than not being a strong talker.

This is pretty compelling stuff so far. I really enjoy a lot of the new generation of performers in WWE.

Having Joe work in front of the main roster crowd is really cool. I hope he gets a bigger run at some point.

Really cool ending.

ROH:
This is actually a pretty compelling show given the two title matches. Strong vs. Lethal might be decent enough.

Why the heck is Lethal insinuating Cheeseburger would do a better job than Strong? There's heel boasting, then there's no-selling that you couldn't beat an opponent in 60 minutes.

OK Strong promo. He just really lacks any character beyond "babyface who wants to be a good wrestler."

- Addiction vs. Bucks:
And this is already starting out bad. Highspot City as always.

These moves are impressive, but look out of place in a competition where you're actually trying to beat your opponent. In a title match no less.

This is garbage.

Daniels is mostly good since he actually gets the whole psychology thing.

I feel like I'm watching some kind of circus act instead of a wrestling match.

Oh, no. Even more flippy guys are here? I really hope this show gets dropped in December so I don't have to keep covering it.

This is just insane. No discipline to it at all.

Thank God it's over.

I think it'd be better if McGuinness COULD take away their title shot, but won't so they have a harder time taking the belts in a triple threat.

Wait, Silas is the heel in this feud? Until the "broad" comment, I didn't see any reason to boo him.

- Lethal vs. Strong:
I'm glad they're punching each other like this was a real fight for the title instead of a series of synchronized flippy moves.

Not bad so far. These two are some of the better wrestlers when they don't go too over-the-top.

Good to see a sleeper hold in an ROH match.

If everyone kicks out of five finishers, how effective are "finishers" really?

This is starting to disintegrate. Too many superkicks and too many heel moves.

It finally ended. Thank goodness. Less can really be more.

I'm not looking forward to more chaos on PPV.

More wrestling coming up.
