Raw thoughts- 9/19/11

Watch out, bub. Wolverine's coming to Raw. Well, kind of. Hugh Jackman's guest hosting the show following Night of Champions. We've got a new WWE Champion in John Cena, and Triple H is still COO after all hell broke loose in his match with C.M. Punk. With only 2 weeks until Hell In A Cell, will Cleveland, Ohio resemble the Danger Room? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Not going to lie. I'm pretty psyched that Jackman's hosting tonight.

Glad Punk's selling the effects of that brutal match. That was a barn-burner.

Bob Holly's a guy you don't want punching you.

If WWE plays their cards right, this angle can do big things for Punk, Miz, and R-Truth. They need to be the beneficiaries of this whole deal.

My hope for the Survivor Series main event is Cena/Rock/HHH/Punk/Orton vs. Nash/Miz/Truth/Del Rio/Christian.

Hey, at least HHH is giving the devil his due.

Cena's 12th (some would say 13th) total World Title reign is unprecedented as well. That's a really big number considering how many title reigns Austin, Rock, etc. had. The only people with more are HHH, Hogan, and Flair. In the history of the entire business. Over decades. Let that sink in for a minute.

Who could be higher up than HHH, other than the Board of Directors?

Johnny Ace does have quite the reputation of being a stooge.

I think it's Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan leaving TNA to take over WWE with a new nWo. Now THAT'D have online fans questioning their sanity.

Why would they fire one of their biggest draws?

I like how WWE sets things up for the next segment and the rest of the night.

Those 8 men have a big chance to shine.

If this angle ends with Vince McMahon secretly being in-control the whole time like the Corporate Ministry or something, I'm going to throw my computer through the wall.

Nexus members everywhere.

I appreciate that Bourne and Kingston have similar tights since they're a team now. Kind of weird looking, though, honestly.

Dear Raw viewers, watch these guys on Smackdown.

No wait, I think Gail Kim's going to end up being in charge of the conspiracy. She's still employed, after al.

I see Sheamus winning the World Title before year's end, which I'd be fine with. It's always a good thing when you have a number of viable choices at the top of the food chain. He's not all that far from being a completely made main eventer.

If Otunga was an indie darling, fans would be claiming that he was just "buried" by that finish. Not so; he's just at a lower tier than Sheamus.

This match will tell something about management's faith in Morrison re-signing.

Hmm, didn't expect a triple threat at Hell In A Cell. Kind of an odd mix. I think it's doable, though.

Well then. Things don't look so good for Morrison sticking around now, do they?

The only thing better than Jackman hosting would be a cameo by Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.

Glad that Jackman isn't Al Sharpton-ing this appearance.

I was hoping for Zack Ryder or Santino Marella, but this is probably a better booster.

We DO want Ryder. Make it happen, or we'll send out Ian McKellan.

I think they should just keep bringing out Sin Caras. Primo's not busy...

Cody Rhodes is an inspiring performer, wrestling after that Rey Mysterio incident left him so horribly disfigured.

Well then, that was interesting. "See more on Smackdown" kind of thing.

Little Jimmy is the catchphrase of 2011.

Miz and R-Truth better be BSing to set up a double-cross. Hopefully someone gave them job security and they can do whatever they want.

I'm guessing, based on the fact they've mentioned it a number of times, that he was inducted in the Hall of Pain. Maybe Trips will fire the commercial guy.

See, when veterans get pushed in WWE, it's because they've busted their asses and put in good enough work to earn it. Not nearly as much coasting to the main event on name value here.

Amazing segment. Nice tie-in with the legitimate criticisms Henry's faced over the years. That was very good stuff by everyone.

Woo Woo Wolverine in the house. Whoever's making wrestling fun again, my theoretical hat's off.

Good selling of the situation by the commentators.

A little iffy on where the Divas storyline's going.

If Bucky Larson outgrosses Real Steel, we've officially failed as a society.

Beat Dolph Ziggler, kid! Make yourself famous!

TNA gives us Eric Young stalking Scott Baio. WWE gives us Zack Ryder broing it up with Hugh Jackman. One of those things actually elicited a positive reaction.

Fun segment all-in-all. There's room for that here and there if it's done right and good like this was.  Props to Jackman for his outstanding performance tonight.

Pretty good Swagger package. Building new (revamped), interesting characters. I hope the people complaining about the same old, same old are watching what's developing in the undercard.

Some memories in that HIAC video package.

Awesome Truth > Immortal by far.

These last 15 or so minutes are going to be what either make this show an A or a slight letdown.

I love Truth's "Shut Up" jeans.

The average age of a competitor in this main event is less than 34.  In the main event of Impact Wrestling, the average age was 57. Let that sink in for a second. Also note that the sweet spot for advertisers is men 18-34.

Smart using Cena to set up Punk tagging in. Does more for Punk to get the win.

I was expecting a Nash run-in to protect Miz and Truth.

Hmmm... curious ending sequence. A lot of this is going to depend on the follow-up.

That's all for Raw. I'll be back tomorrow for NXT. A news post is coming up later.
