Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 9/15/11

Superstars is on WWE.com, with the Internet Champion Zack Ryder in action against Drew McIntyre! Well they continue the string of solid shows? Then on SpikeTV, Sting and Ric Flair go all Space Odyssey on us and do a match last seen in 2001. If Sting wins, he gets Hulk Hogan at Bound For Glory. If he loses, he leaves wrestling forever. If that wasn't huge enough, Bobby Roode comments on winning a World Title match at the biggest event in TNA history next month. And, what's next for Jeff Hardy after his return to the company? All that and more on Impact Wrestling. Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.
Heck yeah, Big Zeke.

A clash of former ECW brand competitors.

I like that idea about veterans, even if it's something Striker made up (no idea if it is).

Who would have thought that Kidd would have made it further in WWE than David Hart Smith?

I wish they'd sell that either of these men could be fighting for the Intercontinental Championship on Sunday.

That table sounds cool.

Not Zeke's best match, but he's still impressive.

If Cena beats Del Rio, all he does is beat a lucky guy, right?

You gon' get got, Palmer.

I like the speculation on who could end up as COO. I wish we heard it more on Raw and Smackdown. It should be a really big deal when there could be a new boss.

I think it's pretty much time to do switch it up a bit with Brodus. Face someone on the main roster, or maybe even some cameos from the past or people "trying out for the company" by facing him.

If Cena wins the title back on Sunday and HHH is replaced by Vince McMahon, they'd basically be back to where they'd been for years.

I wonder what Alga means.

Sure is generic music in here.

Face team vs. face team. Meh. I'm ok with it since we don't see much of Curtis.

I get a sneaking suspicion he was referring to AJ and Kaitlyn as their girlfriends. Seems pretty fitting for them.

Pretty Hate Machine! I like the reference.

Fine match. Didn't do much for Curtis, though. He's just kind of "that guy" now.

I think they should have cut the "skinny fat ass" reference since a lot of people don't get it. Just drop skinny fat and you're fine. I get a feeling Nash will get involved on Sunday.

So much rage. "Phil" and "Paul" is still BS to me.

For anyone who keeps track of such things, HHH has 10 years on Punk at 42.

Ryder = over.

Time to actually do something with McIntyre. Why he's not being used much is beyond me (other than Raw being crowded).

Ryder seems like he's really improving in the ring.

The Internet Champion not being at Night of Champions would be worthy of an "Are you serious, bro?"

Enjoyable match. They didn't need a bunch of flashy moves and spots every 30 seconds to tell a good story.

When's the last time McIntyre won anything? I think he needs a fresh start to a degree.

Time for Back to the Future.

If you just look at Flair's robe, you can pretend he's in his prime.

Not going to lie; there is some "magic in the air" about this match.

These two first faced off in March 1988. I was -1 1/2.

That was hardly charismatic or enigmatic from Hardy.

I keep expecting Mexican America's music to say "to live and die in LAX".

I like the Mexican-themed outfits for Sarita and Rosita.

Nice choices for the 8-person tag.

Anarquia looks pretty different without the glasses and bandana.

Interesting subplot with Devon's kids.

That was ok I guess. Pretty basic and short, though.

Not really looking forward to Karen vs. Traci from an in-ring standpoint if they go that direction.

Resistance 3 looks pretty badass. I'd definitely rather be playing it than watching this.

Good; I'm tired of Mickie vs. Winter.

Angelina looked kind of "out of character" there since she generally looks somewhat similar to Winter lately.

Roode's going to need some singles music.

I'd actually be ok with Fortune turning on Roode here, other than the fact that Immortal wouldn't have as many people to feud with. It'd certainly be more interesting than their current personalities.

This feels like a scene from a movie about an indie band whose guitarist finally gets a chance to play with a more prestigious band.

Coach Angle motivating the semi-pro basketball team.

Honestly, that's a hell of a storyline idea. I like how they worked around them lying down for him.

Is that a duckface on Sting?

Heh heh, "drive safe".

Good for Angelina. Screw pigeons.

So-so match with an overdone ending.

"Regular guy" Jeff Hardy again. Passionate promo by AJ, with more than a little truth to it.

After that big match on Sunday, they're throwing them in a rematch in less than a week? That one had "Bound For Glory" all over it.

I can't think of anything they could do to make me care about Hogan vs. Sting outside of maybe light tubes.

Since they've already got him taking time off, hopefully Crimson's getting some fine-tuning on his way to the main event.

This should have at least been set for the on-the-road tapings.

Build Morgan up on Sunday, have him tap out clean on Thursday. Why would we want to see a third match with that ending?

Nice promo from Devon; there's definitely history with those two. If Hardy does screw up again, they should let the roster have at him.

Fine match. I don't see either as World Champion material, but there are certainly worse wrestlers they could put out there. They're still "meh" charisma-wise to a degree.

It's going to be tough to dissociate Roode's submission finisher from a certain other Canadian who used it.

Not crazy about the backstage talk.

Austin Aries, smug bastard.

See comments on Hogan-Sting and apply them to RVD-Lynn.

I feel like I've seen this match before, just with less sluggishness.

They really had to pull out the bells and whistles for that one. Flair's not as good as he once was, and he's not as good once as he ever was.

And people said Hogan looked old in the '90s. Wow.

Looks like the main event for Starrcade's set. At least in terms of name value it's a pretty big deal.

That's it for Thursday's wrestling. I'll be back for Smackdown tomorrow, and a news post will be up later. Thanks for reading!
