Smackdown thoughts- 9/16/11

It's only 2 nights away from WWE Night of Champions, and tonight's a really big show in Toronto. Hometown hero and Rated-R Superstars Edge comes back tonight to host The Cutting Edge. His guests are the competitors in Sunday's World Heavyweight Championship match, Randy Orton and Mark Henry! Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

Well they're certainly starting off with a bang.

That song will never stop being cheer-worthy.

I'm hoping the show ends with either Mark Henry laying Edge out or Orton getting help from him to RKO his challenger.

Why can't the commentators be like this more?

Edge looks different tonight.

This sounds more like Adam than Edge, but it makes sense that it would. He's not the one they're trying to get over.

Didn't expect Rhodes, but this could work.

It goes to show how much things can change in a couple of months. Rhodes has grown and Edge has fizzled a bit, though it isn't the latter's fault.

I like Rhodes. Not World Champion material yet, but he's moved up the ladder.

I loved the spots with DiBiase. That's the most impressive he's looked in quite some time.

Bryan vs. Cara again? Me gusta.

I like this version of Sin Cara. He's really growing in the role.

I don't, however, like what they've done with Bryan lately. He's dropped some from where he was a month or so ago.

I think the announcers should be pretty black and white with who they support. Keep it simple with faces and heels.

That submission move's pretty tight.

I don't see the point of all this announcer bickering. The "eyes" comment was pretty dumb, though.

Somewhat a lackluster ending, but this feud's been entertaining thus far.

It's Little Sin Cara!

Mistico's better at playing to the crowd now. That whole segment was weird though, with no words.

I hope Edge ends up splatted if Orton and Henry can't be.

If I wanted to see this kind of weird porn-like stuff, there are plenty of avenues to do so. It did give some Vince/Trish flashbacks.

Now these are the chicks I want to see. Funny girls.

Why do they have to squash AJ, who has the talent to be built up into a unique and entertaining Diva? Hopefully it's just because she's such a convincing victim. I hope they don't drop the ball on her after the natural charisma she showed on NXT Season 3.

Good Sheamus package.

Was that a little jab at Trish there?

Christian's pretty entertaining in his role.

Well, Ryder got his message across.

Barrett, Christian, Sheamus, and Gabriel is a cool mix. A veteran who still puts on gre work and three up-and-comers on their ways to glory in the company.

I love the "Lobsterhead" and "Limes" signs.

Interesting promo from Sheamus. It worked for the most part.

It'd be tough for me to do a Fave 5. There are some good choices in this match.

I think Booker's web show is a Marvel reference.

Gabriel's kind of starting to grow on me. I think he's adding to his repertoire.

I loved the ending sequence.

Cole should have defended Christian's retreat as the heel announcer.

Didn't exactly want to see Khali tonight.

Someone I actually wouldn't mind seeing Khali destroy. Well, ok, at least Slater's mobile.

They basically made it look like Khali could have taken out Mahal is he wanted to. Mahal'd have an uphill battle winning there.

They're giving Nash a lot of screen time for someone the website said was released.

That was a solid video package outside of the absolutely boneheaded "Phil" and "Paul" parts. How stupid would it be in Star Wars if Darth Vader stared talking about Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford? Ugh.

Awesome Truth is pretty much a shoe-in for tag team of the year. That rap was great. Cheesy, but entertaining.

I like the dichotomy between the two teams.

"It's all good?" Your partner just lost. If that happens on Sunday, you lose the titles. Not cool.

That story by Edge is a shoot. He sounds kind of tired, though. Maybe he's just hoarse?

I'd love to see Henry get the gold on Sunday.

Now this is a story. Dominant heel vs. popular face champion.

Good opening comments by Edge and Orton.

This is some of the best work of Henry's career. Unless there was some amazing stuff I missed from 96-98.

Edge sounds like a therapist here.

All in all, good use of Edge.

The Smackdown locker room and some NXT guys for good measure.

I thought Henry was going to explode out of all of those guys for a second.

Henry's a  killer. Who the heck's going to be able to stop him?

Hell of a show for the most part. Glad I watched it.

That's it for Smackdown. I'll be back on Sunday for Night of Champions, and a news post is imminent. Thanks for reading!
