Smackdown thoughts- 11/4/11

Tonight, WWE Smackdown continues on the path to Survivor Series. How will Randy Orton, Mark Henry, Big Show, Christian, Sheamus, and the rest of the blue brand prepare for the annual Fall Classic? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.
Starting off with Randy Orton in a Street Fight is incredibly short-sighted.

They're really putting Orton/Rhodes to bed already? This one should at least go to Survivor Series given the story between the two of them.

We didn't even make it 3 minutes without a Twitter reference on commentary.

This could be a chance for Rhodes to get a win to make up for losing at the PPV. Orton could be protected by it taking weapons.

Rhodes isn't the only one with those feelings.

Rhodes is taking the fight to him. It wouldn't surprise me if he's in the World Title picture within a year.

I always liked the "fighting into the crowd" spot for some reason.

Ha. Nice use of the bagger.

Make that baggers.

Pretty good spot with the mask.

Hey, if Rhodes does lose, it took Orton a good while to do it.

Rhodes is impressive here. Becoming closer to a main event spot.

Figure 4! Kind of ironic coming from Dusty Rhodes' son.

And the mask shot as well. Rhodes could get the victory here.

I think Rhodes might have convincingly won if he hit Cross Rhodes there.

This. THIS is wrestling. They don't need tons of weapons or high-flying moves to tell a solid story of competition.

That could have been on a PPV. Yes, Rhodes lost. But if you're going to lose, make your opponent earn it. Rhodes did that.

And there's your sign that it's over and Orton's still above Rhodes.

And THERE'S your sign that Orton had a gash.

Great match to begin the show. I enjoyed it more than the entire 2 hours of Impact Wrestling.

And again, look who's getting a video package instead of The Miz, R-Truth, C.M. Punk, or Alberto Del Rio. 2011 fans want to see stars who are big in 2011.

Like Sheamus.

Remember when Punk was actually a bad guy?

Cool little segment from Nick. Punk's finally getting the mainstream attention he's earned.

I liked that segment with Striker setting things up for later.

I think it's time for new music for DiBiase since his gimmick is different.

I hate when the heel announcers undercut the babyfaces and the babyface announcers don't go after them for it. Way to get DiBiase over, WWE.

Where's the mute button!?

I wish I could hate this commentary to death. They did their best to ruin a pretty good little match.

Not a bad segment, I guess. Bryan didn't really look like a future World Champion.

What the heck is she wearing?

Oh... I see what they did there.

Are we really wasting time on this garbage on commentary instead of the match?

Alicia just beat Natalya clean!! She's still got a ways to go in the in-ring department.

I could probably never see Big Show again and be fine with that. I've just seen him that many times doing a pretty similar (or not as good) character.

I liked Christian's interruption.

Christian out-entertained Big Show by a mile here. A much better character, but he got taken out and made to look like a fool.

That's a lot of selling for one chokeslam (and nothing else)!

Wade Barrett vs. Sheamus works for me.

Christian playing possum to attack Sheamus would be pretty awesome.

Since Booker pushes the Fave Five, they should bring up WWE.com's Power 25.

I like the reasons behind the symbol on Barrett's tights, though it's still a little weird looking.

After Survivor Series, I hope we get Henry vs. Sheamus and Big Show vs. Barrett. The goal would be to further elevate the two up-and-comers. Both men have bright futures if WWE stays behind them.

Meanwhile, Christian's still out from that chokeslam.

But never mind that. Solid match going on here.

Fine by me. Sheamus is protected, Barrett gets the win, and Christian gets more heat.

Christian mentoring Barrett would be fantastic. Elevate this man! Maybe he can be the new "problem solver"?

Good old-fashioned brawling out here.

Not sure what I'd do if I saw a frog that actually looked like Kermit.

The Daniel Bryan push might actually be coming back tonight.

The throw to break wasn't about seeing an exciting superstar, but listening to Booker T.'s commentary. That's awful.

So, is Brodus going to be a member of the Raw roster going forward? He was on Smackdown before he was taken off of TV.

I kind of figured that he'd be in his mask since he's using the Epico gimmick instead of being Tito Colon..

So much for the Fave Five meaning anything.

No introduction for Epico at all...

Gory Stretch!

&$*@& this !@^#$&#* commentary.

I guess Epico's sticking around as part of Smackdown? Not a bad debut. These two were teammates in FCW. They even held the promotion's tag titles together.

That double team! I like this guy already.

If this elevates Bryan and lets us see how well he can work as a potential main eventer, I'm fine with Show being in his corner.

Look at the size difference between Bryan and Show. Damn.

Here's your chance, Bryan.

Not a bad start making Bryan look like he has a chance against Henry.

And of course a lot of the focus is on Henry and Show. Honestly, that makes sense since they're probably co-headlining Survivor Series.

Replace Booker with Foley. This teaming is terrible.

Beat the champion, kid! Make yourself famous!

Henry's gonna kiiiilll you.

Ugh.

Well, so much for Bryan getting much of a rub here.

At least Mark Henry didn't get taken like a total chump by Show this week.

Maybe Henry will put him back on the shelf (in kayfabe of course).

That's all for Smackdown. I'll be back Monday for Raw. A news post is coming up covering Friday's news. Saturday's will be up later tonight. Thanks for reading!
