Jeff Hardy returned at the most recent Impact Wrestling taping. I'm under the impression he hasn't been cleared to return to the ring. They definitely want him for Bound For Glory in NC. Jeff vs. EC3 for the title seems at that show sounds like a no-brainer.
John Cena legitimately broke his nose on Raw. Following the show, he went to a local emergency room to see what their ear, nose, and throat doctor could do about it. People are already joking he'll have color-coded protective face masks to match his gear, or we'll see Juan Cena come back. They definitely need to put Juan Cena on TV someday.
More from the Hulk Hogan scandal has been released: Hulk used homophobic slurs on the tape. I think his reputation's already to the point where further revelations can't possibly bring it lower. Unless he says "Hitler was an OK guy, brother" or something, I think we get the point.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Roderick Strong has re-signed with ROH. So much for him moving up the food chain. He's a workhorse and a great hand to have around. I'd love to see what he could do in WWE.
Paige will be on Stone Cold's podcast after next week's Raw. I'd rather it be, say, Kevin Owens or someone higher up on the totem pole, but it should lead to some interesting discussion.
Kevin Owens talked about wanting to face Brock Lesnar and more. This needs to happen.
Material featuring Hulk Hogan is part of two upcoming WWE Studios releases: Celebrity Death Pool and the second Scooby Doo movie. WWE is expected to try to remove all his scenes and redo things. That's pretty extreme. What's worse is his scene in Scooby Doo was one of Dusty Rhodes' final WWE appearances, and that might be lost now.
The signing Stephen Amell was scheduled for the day of Summerslam has been canceled, presumably setting him up to work the PPV instead. At this point, it would be a disappointment if he wasn't there given the build they've done.
The New York Post had an article about John Cena breaking his nose on Raw. He's a tough guy for pushing through like that.
Mark Wahlberg, Gabriel Iglesias, and Joe Manganiello were all at WWE's live event in Los Angeles this weekend. I'm glad WWE never did a crossover with the Ted movies.
Bobby Fish will challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH TV Championship at All-Star Extravaganza on September 18. ROH doesn't care about spoiling shows they've already taped. I guess that's because it's more about "how good the matches are" than who wins and loses. I wonder how that works for ratings.
Alicia Fox was concussed on Raw. No word on how much time she'll miss. I think she's been a good "utility player" for the division for the last few years.
Raw's audience Monday was 3.67 million viewers. I wonder what number they have to hit before USA officially panics. They had some really big stuff on this week's show, and the number really dropped. Good thing Brock's back next week.
The Miz is the new host of Tough Enough, with Byron Saxton taking over for "Tough Talk." I really wonder what the future of the show is after this season.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I think he is more interesting than being a good wrestler. His character's an absolute prick, and he's very comfortable on the mic and in the ring. He plays his part well enough to stand out from the pack. I agree both that wrestlers need to have interesting characters and that it's fine for wrestlers to not have the chiseled look so many do if they can still go.
2. Really big pop, but I also think they'd have to educate the newer fans on who he is. It's a shame we don't see him every once in a while. He was great back in the day.
3. What they said. There's working through (relatively) minor aches and pains and there's asking someone to finish a match with a concussion or worse.
4. They did the angle of Paige getting no help in facing off with the Bellas, so it wasn't totally out of the blue. I would have liked for it to be more organic than Stephanie assigning people together, but I think it will work in hindsight if they remain committed to the change in the division.
5. Cena and Brock aren't Attitude Era guys, but regardless: Brock's been book as an unstoppable monster, so it made sense for him to destroy Rollins (look at what he did to Cena last year). Taker caught him by surprise, so that kind of explains that. Owens took THREE ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENTS before tapping out, and that means a lot to the people who don't think wins and losses are everything. I do think they rely too much on the stars of yesteryear, but I wish people would keep in mind how many times the former Shield guys main evented PPVs in the past year, Ziggler being the last survivor at Survivor Series, how strong Rusev and Owens looked in their feuds with Cena, some other important guys being able to hang with the U.S. Champ, etc.. If they brought back Val Venis and The Godfather to squash the NXT callups, I'd complain, too. But things aren't THAT one-sided, and they are getting better.
More wrestling tomorrow.
