Reigns hurt, new WWE TV deal, Interviews with Swagger/Paige, Bryan surgery update, NXT star works live events, big international name to WWE and Questions on Russo, TNA in Canada, why to watch TNA and One Night Only PPVs

Roman Reigns got a nasty gash in a steel cage match with Randy Orton. He might be held off a few shows, as there was concern about a concussion. I hope he recovers well.

Variety did a piece on WWE's new TV deal with NBC Universal. On one level, that's really good and I'm glad they got a deal finalized. But they were expected to announce a much more profitable deal.

Update: the deal is official. After all that talk of them leaving for a bigger deal, everything finally got worked out. Kind of anticlimactic, but I hope it's for the best for everyone involved.

Update: WWE put out a press release adjusting their business outlook for the next two years. Needless to say, they didn't come anywhere close to what they wanted for their content. Icarus flew too close to the sun.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

Jack Swagger talked up NXT star Sami Zayn in a new interview. I want to see Swagger vs. Zayn pretty badly. Zayn's doing really great in NXT.

WWE.com interviewed Paige. She's doing well. Still room to grow, but she's in a pretty tough position winning the title so early. It was a pretty good piece. I'm glad she's doing this character instead of something she's clearly not.

Following his successful surgery, Daniel Bryan is being penciled in for a return at Summerslam. That's a tough break. I think I'd have Kane win the title, feud with Show then Cena, and drop the title to Bryan at Summerslam. Yeah, I'm not excited about Kane vs. Show or Kane vs. Cena, either, but I think those two feuds make sense. Maybe RVD or Mark Henry could be plugged in there instead/in addition? It's tough to say.

Sami Zayn worked WWE's event in Rome, defeating Damien Sandow. He's got to be coming to the main roster before too awful long, right? I'd definitely want WWE to give Paige, Adam Rose and Bo Dallas time to "sink in" and all that, but Zayn's definitely someone to watch.

WWE has come to terms with signing international sensation Prince Devitt. He's expected to report to NXT before Summerslam. He has a number of bookings in his native Ireland to get through first, as well as issues with his work visa. He's been praised rather heavily, so I hope he makes a big splash in WWE. If KENTA gets signed as well as expected, Triple H will continue his streak of very impressive signings. I'm very impressed with the work HHH has done since taking over developmental.

For my questions on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I do think Russo gets way too much flak and some remarks made about him are disturbing and inappropriate. I can only imagine what he has to live through based on decisions he made more than decade ago. But there are definitely valid criticisms to be made of his booking decisions from years back.

2. They did some shows in conjunction with Scott D'Amore's BCW years back, but I think that's pretty much it.

Nothing to add to 3, other than Terry has been employed this whole time and working in Japan. So maybe he's improved?

4. Honestly at this point I'd probably only watch highlights. The wrestlers do work really hard and there are some really good characters to catch, but I wouldn't blame anyone for choosing other options to TNA.

5. Not much to add here. TNA had a lot of PPV slots to fill and threw a bunch of stuff together. There are usually some pretty good matches and surprises on them, for what that's worth.

More wrestling tomorrow.
