Main Event - 8/12/14, WWE Network expands internationally, Del Rio-AAA update, more WWE names at TCA, Summerslam name not at Smackdown, NXT star back training, NXT preview, Steen to WWE, Hardy grants wish, Raw audience, Smackdown dark match, Rock family update, big Y2J podcast guest and Questions on Taker costing Brock the title, announcers' work, TNA's financial situation, Hayabusa in the Hall and WWE's Plan D

Main Event:
Pretty good opening segment. As much as I like RVD and Sheamus, I think the Usos should retain. I'm glad they acknowledged the Ryback/RVD connection.

Seth Rollins vs. Kofi Kingston was quite the good match. It looks like WWE might have dropped the faction with Xavier and Big E. The idea of the three of them taking tutelage from Mark Henry was something I liked forward to seeing.

I wasn't too crazy about the Sheamus/RVD promo, but it was good enough to set up tonight's match.

That was a pretty clever ending to what was a match with a lot of good action. It's good to see a push for the Usos. I don't see any obvious candidates to beat them at the moment.

Good post-match. No need for a teased turn or anything.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.

Here are details for WWE Network's launch in Canada. It's a big day for fans north of the border!

Update: WWE launched in a different form in quite a few other countries as well. It will expand to more devices Friday. This is a big step for WWE's business, and a necessary one at that.

Alberto Del Rio will be appearing at AAA Triplemania opposite Summerslam as a guest of the promotion. I'm thinking he might not be able to wrestle for them for another 80-something days, but he might be able to appear in the crowd or something on-screen.

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella were also at the Teen Choice Awards. There's no concrete timetable for Bryan returning. That's a shame.

Chris Jericho wasn't part of the Smackdown taping. I don't think it will be too hard to work around him not being there. His Summerslam match has been built pretty well.

NXT's Veronica Lane is back training. That's good. There are a number of talented Divas-in-training there.

Set for this week's NXT:
- The Vaudevillains vs. Bull Dempsey and Mojo Rawley in the #1 Contendership Tag Team Tournament
- Sin Cara and Kalisto vs. Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake in the #1 Contendership Tag Team Tournament
- #1 Contendership for NXT Women's Championship: Bayley vs. Sasha Banks
- NXT Championship: Adrian Neville vs. Tyler Breeze

I'm looking forward to that show.

Triple H confirmed Kevin Steen officially being signed to WWE for NXT. This is another highly-anticipated signing. Steen's not someone who fits the "WWE mold", and that's what makes this so exciting. He's a former ROH World Champion and was involved in a number of big angles there, perhaps most notably with El Generico (NXT's Sami Zayn).

Update: Steen signed a few weeks back after passing WWE's medical testing. Today's announcement was timed to coincide with the WWE Network coming to Canada. It also comes after his final announced indy dates. He will officially report to Orlando for NXT in September. Other talents are expected to be signed before then and start work at the same time. WWE Developmental is getting really stacked.

Update: WWE.com interviewed Steen after his signing. They're not going to let him use the Package Piledriver, are they? Vince almost blew a gasket when Punk pulled a piledriver out. The Zeus reference was pretty funny. I'm pretty excited about his signing.

Update: Here's a picture with Fergal Devitt and Kevin Steen. I'm sure that potential teaming has people talking!

Update: Sami Zayn, The Rock and Stone Cold tweeted about the signing. Needless to say, it's a pretty big deal.

Kevin Nash's post-Raw flight was with Hulk Hogan and Chris Jericho. Jericho and Nash have had issues in the past, so it's nice to see them getting along here.

August 10 was "Goldust Day" at the site of WWE's live event. I wonder if we'll ever see a Stardust Day.

TNA put out a press release about Jeff Hardy meeting a superfan from the UK. That's pretty cool.

Raw's audience for Monday was 4.30 million for Hulk Hogan's celebration and the final Raw before Summerslam. I wonder what the numbers will be for the show after the PPV.

Big E beat Fandango ahead of Smackdown. No Kofi or Xavier at ringside. Maybe they were hanging out with Layla and Summer Rae? They weren't at ringside, either.

The Rock announced his mother's able to go home after this week's wreck. I hope that wreck was a one-time thing for her. I hate that happened.

Chris Jericho will have Bray Wyatt on his podcast Friday. That definitely makes up for missing Smackdown. Should be fun.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. The main objection for me is Taker's health. I think that would pretty much set up another round of Taker/Brock, which they shouldn't pull the trigger on if Taker's iffy for an in-ring comeback. That ending would put the focus even further on the part-timers, which is the exact opposite of what they should be trying to do.

2. JBL and Cole also have their YouTube show, of course. A lot of times there's work done on the commentary for the taped shows before they air, so they don't just show up for a few hours Monday and Tuesday and have the rest of the week off.

3. As was said, it's not as simple as it's been made out to be. I don't know how much they make on international TV deals, but a lot of times they'll have one deal for a group of countries (Middle East/North Africa, for instance). It will be interesting to see if they keep making Impact for other countries if they lose the Spike deal; and if so, for how long.

4. Yeah, a lot of fans have NO idea who that is, so I think the possibility is low. I wouldn't rule it out, but I don't see it happening in the next few years.

5. People REALLY don't want to see Brock win the title, do they? I can see Rollins leaving as champion, but it seems less likely than Brock walking out with the title to start the road to WrestleMania 31.

More wrestling tomorrow.

  1. All I can really say is I've heard those same stories. The Punk/AJ/Beadle incident is definitely true, as Punk and Beadle have confirmed it. They just have different takes on the matter. As for AJ being fired as a result, it wouldn't surprise me. I don't know a lot about AJ's backstage reputation, but Punk was almost constantly butting heads with someone in some fashion. He's very much an individualist, much like Heyman.

I'm finding more and more that rumors are kind of on a scale of truth, where parts are probably true and some things get blown out of proportion or embellished. It's like the game Telephone where one person's repeating what another person said or saw and changing it a bit, whether intentionally and maliciously or otherwise.
