WWE releases Q2 2014 financial numbers

Read on for my thoughts on WWE's financial releases.
Here are WWE's financial numbers for Q2 2014.

- That's a BIG hit from this time last year, and the WWE Network numbers aren't pretty. I don't think they're in any danger of going bankrupt, but that's a disappointing quarter, numbers-wise.

- It is a really good idea to make the Network available in that many countries, if there's enough demand for it to be profitable. They definitely need to make big moves with it.

- The deal in Canada is particularly good news. I hope it's quite fruitful. The Network can definitely be a big success in time.

- More original content will be KEY for keeping the Network going.

- Wow. They really are rolling out to a lot of countries, and soon. That's going to make or break the Network as a venture.

- More platforms and the "resume play" option are great. That's what people have been asking for.

- That's a lot of layoffs. I hope it doesn't affect things too negatively.

- Of course PPV buys are notably down with the Network. It was something of a dying model anyway, at least at that price point for WWE.

- Attendance being down really sucks. That's a problem and they need to address it.

- The video game deal isn't doing as well as the previous one. That's a shame.

The WWE stock went up after their earnings info was released. Losses were lower than expected. I guess WWE set the bar REALLY low for this past quarter.

Here's the conference call featuring Vince McMahon.

- The Network continues to be a difficult road to navigate effectively. What does it say that 128,000 people tried to put the Network on a card with no funds? I hope there's a solution to that. That's total BS.

- Yeah, they're totally going to cut people left and right. Some people were probably just there for when the Network was in its beginning stages. How much can they afford to cut corners without it actually hurting things?

- They greatly overestimated how many people would pay to access all that old content. You'd think it'd be a slam dunk given how much content is there, but I guess people primarily want new stuff!

- It makes sense to charge more for the month with Mania if there's no commitment.

- Countries getting the Network who previously didn't have PPVs is a great business move and I hope it works out really well.

- I hope they do reach everywhere they want to by the end of 2016. That doesn't sound like an unreasonable deadline.

WWE indeed released a good number of backstage people. No names yet. No surprises at that move.

More wrestling coming up.
