Superstars and Impact Wrestling - 3/20/15

Read on for my thoughts on last night's editions of Superstars and Impact Wrestling.

Superstars:
I like them having a video on Andre before this match. He should be treated as important in the buildup to the battle royal.

Swagger vs. Rose was pretty good. I miss the hell out of Zeb Colter.

Nice to do a video package on the Lucha Dragons and The Ascension. It's cool to see Kalisto get to work on the main roster shows.

Good stuff from these two teams. Them having worked together before really played into it here. One really good thing about there being more NXT shows is people will get more comfortable in the ring with each other before they're seen on WWE TV.

Impact Wrestling:
On one hand, I appreciate TNA starting off with a high-octane gimmick match, because this should be amazing. BUT I think it really cheapens Ultimate X to be used as a random opening match. What if these teams had been facing each other for weeks and weeks now and the only way to settle it was a big gimmick match? Is that too old school of a concept? At least have something with Storm selecting Manik and Sanada to get the titles back and that kind of thing. If these people don't have motivations of why they're in the match, there's less reason to care about why one particular team is there instead of another.

Also, why couldn't Matt Hardy choose a partner and join the fray? There'd be perfect reason to involve him. I hope there's at least a spot where Abyss, Storm, and/or Khoya try to get involved only to meet a steel chair or something from Matt.

The "chicken fight" spot was actually kind of funny.

Good match overall. It didn't feel too much like they were just thrown out there to do cool moves. It seemed like a standard of previous eras to just throw a bunch of X-Division guys in a match like this (or the Terrordome/Steel Asylum) to do spots for little to no reason.

No Revolution involvement in the post-match? I'm kind of surprised.

Interesting stipulation between Aries and Low Ki. That should make for something fun going forward.

And with that, Joe's last match in TNA has aired. Leave the memories alone! I'm glad he got to go out against Aries given their history.

That was kind of a convoluted way to get to Spud cashing in, if for no other reason than it involved two of those damned briefcases. It's not as special when there are so many of them.

BAH GAWD NEW CHAMP! NEW CHAMP! NEW CHAMP! I think Spud earned it after all he did last week vs. EC3. I'm willing to see what he can do with a title. He definitely has some serious heart. He reminds me of Team Canada-era Eric Young. Before they tried to make him serious and a World Title challenger, he was THE guy fans connected with in the Impact Zone. Ahh, those were the days. I'm coming around on EY as a top guy now.

I really liked the Magnus/Bram angle. I don't know what kind of gimmick match they can do to end this one given how much they've already beaten the hell out of each other, but I look forward to more of their feud.

Nice video promoting the importance of tonight's title match. Simple, but effective by TNA.

Pretty solid Knockouts Title match. Terrell has improved a lot as a wrestler, and everyone really brought it in the ring.

More from Terrell vs. Kong is something I'm looking forward to. More Havok would be good, too.

I'm pretty hyped for the main event tonight. Good promo from Angle. This match has been built to really mean something.

So, this is why we didn't see Storm or Hardy earlier. They could have at least have done something backstage with Storm warming up for Hardy or something to explain why The Revolution didn't come out for the opening match.

I think they might have needed a bit too many shenanigans for Storm to go over here. It was a pretty good no-DQ match with some heat to it, but the booking was kind of a letdown.

NICE post-match. The Revolution has really been an act to watch.

I'm ready for this match. Let's just get to it already!

Angle vs. Lashley has been really intense and high-octane going into the break. Angle's still got it; that's for damn sure.

Lashley pulling out a frog splash AND an ankle lock is insane. WWE missed the boat on not bringing him back.

Really, REALLY good stuff. Definitely worth going out of your way to see. TNA is hitting a pretty nice stride, even if no one's watching.

Nice post-match. I'm glad they didn't have BDC run in or anything to spoil the fun.

More wrestling coming up.
