Raw thoughts- 3/14/11

For math fans, today is Pi Day. For wrestling fans, it's 20 days from WrestleMania XXVII. Tonight Vickie Guerrero fights to be employed against the wrestler with the most Women's Championships in history, Trish Stratus! Not to mention tonight's Guest Star, Snooki from "Jersey Shore". Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens!

The Rock really does sound a lot like Barack Obama (or is it the other way around), and the opening segment only served as a reminder of that.

The kid in the Cena shirt was pretty funny.

Plenty of bait to the jaded smarks there. Reminds me of some of the things Miz and Triple H have said on TV about him over the years.

Silly but entertaining start to the show.

The "serious" part of Rock's promo was pretty good as well, but I could have done without the music.

Cole's got his own announce table. I love it. Nice way to have Cole and King on commentary without coming to blows.

I think we should get some more background on The Rock's father and grandfather on TV.

It's way too soon to do Del Rio-Cena. I hope they go to Brodus Clay and/or Ricardo Rodriguez for that one.

Miz vs. Khali. There's a REASON we haven't seen that one yet.

At least that was short and mostly painless. Thankfully Miz came out on top at the end of the segment.

Time to speculate on Cole's guest. I'm thinking Jimmy Hart.

That makes us, what, 0-3 for Jersey Shore cameos in wrestling being well-acted? Snooki seemed calmer than I pictured her being.

Cool new graphic for the U.S. Title match. No robe and crown this week. Sheamus on Muscle and Fitness is pretty cool for WWE. It'd be better if he wasn't being misused right now.

If the Bella Twins cost DB the title, rage will be had.

Sheamus and Bryan put on a pretty good match here. The fans were really into it as well. And they didn't even need to fall from 20 ft. cables!

Hell of an ending, though I'm not crazy about Sheamus being stuck in the U.S. Title division. We'll see where they go with this though. It could elevate the whole division, or be a waste of time.

Regicide actually means killing of a king (think suicide or homicide), but this is a PG show.

Holy $%&*! They just brought back part of Too Cool, and broke kayfabe by pointing out his relation to Lawler. Count me as intrigued already. I was partially expecting an ex-wife (Stacy "The Kat" Carter for instance).

I wonder how much of this is based in reality. I also wonder how many fans remember Grand Master Sexay.

This is weird to watch. This guy was a comedy character and now he's ripping on his actual father.

WHAT THE..... JR too!!? This is unreal. Thank you, WWE for these pleasant surprises.

These two know more about promos and psychology than more than half of the TNA roster.

The crowd was hot for this segment, and it mostly involved announcers. That's how well it's been done and how real it feels. And how much people want the babyfaces to take out the heels.

Maybe on Friday, Edge and Christian can finally become the "octopuses of the tag team division" that they wanted to be before they split up (as 8-time tag team champions).

Heel takes eye off the ball, face capitalizes. Crowd pops. Face takes out heel underling, teases attack on heel leader. Crowd cheers like crazy and chants his name. This is wrestling done right.

GTR. Nice.

WWE is promoting the hell out of Tough Enough. As they should. Promoting things for weeks and weeks means that people might be more likely to watch them. TNA's done better with this lately, but still needs to step it up.

I was entertained by Drew Carey's WWE appearance, but it wasn't Hall of Fame worthy. This is supposed to be a wrestling-related Hall of Fame. And boy does he look different than he did over a decade ago when that happened.

Zack Ryder's on Raw! Didn't expect that one.

Snooki isn't all over the show tonight, which is good for a Guest Star in wrestling.

Yeah, that was kind of a trainwreck. A somewhat entertaining one, though.

So, while we haven't gotten Trish vs. Natalya or Trish vs. Beth Phoenix one-on-one, we have gotten Trish vs. Vickie.

WWE gets a bit more leeway with crap like this because they don't have as many moments like this. (TNA seems to have at least one per show).

Dolph and Laycool against JoMo, Trish, and Snooki. Not really looking forward to that one. Though it does have 5 mostly good workers in it, it feels odd and thrown together. But, it gets WWE some publicity so maybe it's worth putting up with. Also, I hope this puts the nail in the coffin of MITB this year, because those two guys should have been locks for that match if it went down.

And I thought the first Sin Cara promo looked cool. Really looking forward to seeing this guy.

Good package by HBK too.

Del Rio looked good here in not losing to Cena. They really like Brodus too obviously.

Hahahahaha. Nice. Miz had me fooled for a bit there. That was a really good heel move, because now people want to see Rock destroy him EVEN MORE.

Miz is looking really good in this feud, despite having to deal with stars the level of Cena and Rock. If they keep this up, there's no telling how much heat he'll have in 3 weeks.

Hell of an ending to a solid show. That's my last thought here. More thoughts to come when NXT comes around tomorrow night.
