Smackdown Thoughts- 3/11/11

Tonight, Triple H makes his return to Smackdown in order to address The Undertaker. What will he say to his WrestleMania opponent just 23 days before their No Holds Barred match?

Read on for my thoughts on this week's Smackdown.
Houston is where Triple H and Undertaker first faced off at WrestleMania if I remember correctly. I wonder if they'll ever mention their match from WM17?

Hopefully they also bring up Edge's WrestleMania accomplishments.

Was the "bingo hall" comment a shot at the old ECW?

I'm still not crazy about Brodus Clay, but I can accept him being used in this situation.

It's really been 10 years since Edge and Christian teamed up? WOW. Now THAT was a good tag team.

Michael Cole's heel character is entertaining when he doesn't overdo it by yelling in too many matches. Cole's been a target of Cena in the past, and I expect that to continue tonight.

I'm pretty much ruling out Diesel being at Mania if he's not part of this story by now. Kane's probably the better choice from a workrate standpoint anyway.

Here's how I'd book the last 3 weeks of Big Show/Kane vs. The Corre (assuming the last show before Mania won't be a preview show exclusively): Tonight Show would have tried to take on The Corre by himself in a match, and as they get the advantage, Kane comes out to even it up with a chair. The Corre bails. Teddy Long makes the match for Mania (4 on 2).

Week 2: Kane and Show talk backstage about how while they might not like each other (in the least), they'll team up to beat The Corre. Later, The Corre faces 2 men in one match (JTG and Masters), and Kane/Show face 4 (indy guys) in their match as warm-ups. The Corre gets a win when the numbers game eventually proves to be too much. It should NOT be a squash. Kane and Show almost win (somewhat convincingly), then The Corre attacks them.

Week 3: Kane and Show are in the ring together, and they call out The Corre. They come out and surround the ring, then go in and attack. But they're driven off by chairs. At Mania, misunderstandings lead to Kane leaving Show. Show gets beaten convincingly by The Corre. This leads to Kane vs. Show down the line (not a thrilling match from a technical standpoint, I know, but it's a pretty big clash of names. The Corre, as Tag Team Champions, go to both shows defending the titles (Wade and Ezekiel come as well) as that division gets more focus. Wade and Ezekiel can face some people higher up the card, too.

Anyway, back to the show. I think Show and Kane look a little too dominant in this feud. It won't be a big deal if The Corre win only because Show and Kane screw up, and not because they're a fairly solid unit who sowed some dissension.

Michael Cole: He's covered wars, ya know. (He actually has).

For those who didn't get the "flash photography" reference, look up Edge and Christian's days as a tag team (not The Brood). They were awesome.

I like Rhodes wrestling in the suit and facemask. Especially with him using the latter as a weapon via headbutts.

The difference between Cena-Miz this time and last time is big. Hopefully Miz doesn't get beaten and de-pushed like he was then. At least he's not being treated as a joke this go-round.

Can Cole do for Swagger what he's done for Miz?

I'm glad that Cole didn't take the AA here. King's supposed to be who takes him out.

Apparently "Sin Cara" means faceless in English. Pretty cool.

I guess we're not getting a Laycool breakup yet.

Kaitlyn finally gets entrance music as she's in her hometown here. She's continuing to train in FCW. She seems to be improving, though we didn't get to see much of her in the ring. Still needs some work, though.

Too much announcer chatter here.

Regicide, for those who don't want to look it up, is the killing of a king.

McIntyre's pretty solid here. Maybe he'll get Ziggler's push?

Rey vs. Cody's official now. Maybe it won't be mask vs. mask after all (they should save that one if they are going to do it).

More foreign languages tonight? Long live the King this time. Naturally they say that after I type it.

Awesome Triple H package. And T-shirt for that matter. Very Thor-like.

The Cerebral Assassin cut a good enough promo to make us ignore how goofy he looks in The Chaperone, and that's saying something. He knows how to work the mic for sure.

This is Undertaker's 19th match at WrestleMania. Let that sink in for a minute. He's been in WWE for over TWO DECADES now and hasn't lost a match there. That's amazing.

Christian-Edge backstage was pretty solid. I wish it would have gotten more time and we would have gotten more of a trip down memory lane about the past decade.

I almost wish we would have gotten their old-school entrance, but since they're more serious in this match (and they're bigger stars now... and it's been so long that some people wouldn't recognize it), I understand why they went that route.

I wonder if Conor O'Brian will ever rekindle his rivalry with Ricardo Rodriguez.

Edge, Christian, and Del Rio are all solid workers, and Clay was used wisely enough to look good as well.  Nice reunion for E&C. No 5-second pose though.

That's all for Smackdown. I'll be back this weekend for a preview of TNA Victory Road, and coverage of the event itself!
