Main Event Reax - 7/29/14, Interviews with Piper/Prinze,Jr./RVD, post-Raw dark match, U.S. Champ missing, Del Rio busted open, WWE financial update, Raw audience and Questions on Divas storytelling, the blue steel cage, Flo Rida, Sandow, and Ambrose as champ

Main Event:
That was the best Alberto segment in as long as I can remember. Great stuff from both guys and I can't wait for the match.

I like the new stable with Xavier, Big E and Kofi. If they're really going to add Mark Henry as the leader of the group, that's a great opportunity for the younger stars to learn under him. As much as I don't want it to be "the black people group", I do want the people involved to get the rub from Henry. They could reunite the Primetime Players to feud with them as faces if they wanted. Obviously that more or less throws the breakup angle's heat away, but it will have been long enough once Darren recovers that Titus could have had a change of heart or something. The end goal needs to be elevating wrestlers and getting them more experience so they can carry the company when the long-term veterans retire.

Really good tag match. WWE's got some pretty good teams.

I like how Xavier's group isn't attacking or anything. It keeps intrigue going on what direction they'll take.

I like Slater Gator. I'm not really sure why, but the gimmick clicks for me.

That was another pretty good tag match. Slater Gator has potential (and I love the name).

Great match between Ambrose and Del Rio. Del Rio makes for a great ring general and Ambrose is always a house of fire. I wouldn't mind a rematch at all.

Solid ending to the show. Ambrose vs. Rollins at Summerslam should be AMAZING.

Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Roddy Piper talked about being stabbed, painting himself half black and more. That was one of the wildest things I've read in a while.

After Raw, Big Show teamed with Dean Ambrose to beat Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins. I'm fairly convinced WWE will still be using Big Show in 10 years. The ride just keeps going.

Sheamus was not at Raw or Smackdown. He was in Ireland for currently unknown reasons. I'm under the assumption he didn't go AWOL and WWE knows he was there.

Freddie Prinze, Jr. made reference to his time as a WWE writer in a recent interview. Prinze, Jr. vs. Keifer Sutherland would totally increase Network buys. WWE should get on that.

Alberto Del Rio needed stitches after his Superstars match with Justin Gabriel. Del Rio's really gone down the card.

More WWE releases could be coming after they release their financial numbers Thursday. Needless to say, people are on edge backstage. That's a shame. I have a feeling some talented names could be cut once again.

Rob Van Dam put over WWE's Australian tryouts. The Australian tour could be some of his last dates for a while. He isn't advertised for anything in WWE past August. As far as what he said about "bigger, slower wrestlers" not having a job, there are still a number of them in WWE. Generally their careers are winding down, though. The workers in NXT are definitely quick and athletic. I'm not surprised he didn't acknowledge TNA's existence despite being their champion a few years back.

Raw's audience this week was 4.32 million, down from last week. I'm sure the lack of Brock Lesnar had something to do with that. They can't use him every week.

For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Umm, that WAS a story. Paige was stringing AJ along as if they were best friends, slowly teasing the heel turn that followed Battleground. There were hints along the way that Paige was having second thoughts about being friends (AJ tagging herself in upsetting Paige, that kind of thing). There were also angles recently with Summer Rae/Layla and the split of the Funkadactyls. Hell, Brie Bella is in one of the main events at Summerslam. If anything, WWE seems to care more about the Divas than they did during the "Total Divas" feud. I'd also like to see the Divas treated better (i.e. less "Total Divas" nonsense), but the division does get attention these days.

2. I think they might have liked the look better as well. It was a different era.

3. Here's the thing about the Rock and Wrestling Era. It was rock as well as wrestling. WWE has had celebrity/musician cameos going back to those days. They were a big part of the era. Flo Rida has millions of Twitter followers, so a lot of WWE fans are probably also Flo Rida fans. I also want to see the focus be on the wrestlers instead of musicians, but this is hardly a colossal blunder on Vince's part.

4. Sandow was phenomenal as the scholar and the gimmick got him pretty far. I think he's doing a pretty good job as his current character and I think it could get over as a face act or maybe even as a heel act if he was booked as a threat. He's talented enough to make it happen.

5. Yeah, that's definitely Russo-esque. I think Ambrose is great, but it's too soon for him to be pushed that hard in one night. That's like cutting 40 minutes out of a movie in order to rush the ending. Let the audience continue to get behind Ambrose where he is on the card now. When he finally does become the top guy, it will mean more that he had to work for it and earn it.

More wrestling tomorrow.
