Superstars and Impact thoughts- 4/28/11

Today, Divas clash on Superstars, and Mr. Anderson looks for a 1-on-1 title shot on Impact. Read on for my thoughts on this Thursday's shows.

Melina and Alicia Fox on the same team? Ariane from Tough Enough must be pleased.

The Smackdown matches were taped post-Draft, but the Raw matches were taped before it, so we get some crossover tonight.

The Country Whipping match sounds like something TNA would come up with after that explanation.

This is a nice little match that will go under the radar.

That was pretty solid! I hope we see more from these two.

Cena-Miz-Morrison will almost surely top Sting-RVD-Anderson. No Hulk Hogan for one thing.

I hope Orton RKOs someone in that movie. Preferably everyone. Throw in some punts and I might actually watch it.

What the heck is DH Smith wearing? That was Skip Sheffield-esque.

I think Ryder could get over as a goofy face like Santino.

Fine match here.

Online-only shows have the weirdest commentary.

Smith's new personality's going to take some getting used to.

ZACK RYDER JUST WON A MATCH!!! A good one, too. I liked the ring apron spot.

I guess they're not going with "Smart, Sexy, Powerful" anymore.

It's weird watching this show without (non-WWE) commercials. Same to a degree with NXT.

Melina and Alicia are the new Mega-Powers.

Everyone in this match is a former Women's or Divas' Champion.

I think that's the first time I've seen a Northern Lights suplex from Alicia Fox. She's improved.

That's a crazy submission by Melina. I like it.

Not a bad match. You'd think that they'd use Gail's music since she got the pin. I don't even remember what it sounds like...

That's all for Superstars. On to Impact.

That's actually a really smart way to start the show: trying to figure out who the mistress is. You'd think that Velvet would get in a fight with someone there though given their history.

I wonder if the caterer and seamstress were really the caterer and seamstress.

What's the point of bringing them out there if she's just going to insult them and run them off? Not a very good interview.

Ms. Tessmacher would seem to be an obvious choice, so TNA will probably pull a big swerve here. Isis the Amazon maybe?

No WWE reference with Tara and Kurt?

Good set up with Velvet, even if it isn't her. She got a nice boost I think.

Winter's really good at sounding evil.

I actually like this angle to a degree. It's something different, and I'm not one of those people who thinks that wrestling needs to be super-serious like MMA.

Someone's got to be wrecking that truck soon. It's too obvious.

Was Jeremy Borash not there for this Impact taping?

You'd think the Spanish announcers would be evenly split on Mexican America, since announcers generally do that.

So much for that MCMG split (for now at least).

Steiner's promo during the Matt Morgan beatdown was either a mark of insanity or genius. This feud needs to end with Morgan getting a nice rub by going over Steiner. But what to do until we get there?

I liked the Sting segment for the most part, even if it is one of the oldest things in the book. I especially like that he left the bat in there so Anderson will know who did it. Sting doesn't look particularly badass with that coat, but that's another story.

A good wrestling match between two people who aren't Attitude Era relics? Am I watching the right Thursday show? Maybe they're giving Daniels a pass for the brief stint he had in WCW. Why do you think AJ got a push here?

TNA IS GETTING SOMETHING RIGHT. Stop. the. presses. That was good. Also we haven't heard from Bischoff or Hogan yet. Hopefully the ratings don't sink.

Why isn't Anderson just kicking his ass?

Oh, mind games. I'm ok with that.

"Whoa, brother. You can't have a talking segment without me, Stinger."

Sting/Anderson/Bully Ray? That's... ok I guess. I'd prefer Abyss.

That was a so-so promo from Joe. At least he wasn't yelling it.

Christy Hemme's no Jeremy Borash at ring intros.

Joe's streak was amazing. I don't think anyone could duplicate it. He didn't need a fancy gimmick, he didn't need time on the mic, he just went out there and delivered.

We got some flashes of the old Joe in this match.

Stupid camera aside (why did they need to be behind something and moving around while talking to him), I didn't mind the Anderson segment. They're throwing out too many TNA Title matches on Impact, but they're trying to make them somewhat important.

Mickie's the first wrestler to have been WWE Women's, WWE Divas', and TNA Knockouts' Champion. Nice "sappy" promo by Mickie.

That promo would have been good if it wasn't filmed behind a window with blinds. In TNA, it's perfectly ok to not replace old wrestlers/faces on TV, but camera angles have to be all new and edgy. It's like you've got 2 flat tires, but you're worried that you need some new tacky big rims.

Why'd they make us sit through that much of Hemme if Borash is there? Christy's not bad, but there's no reason to use her in place of Borash. Of course, it's possible that they're trying to justify Hemme's allegedly hefty salary (compared to how much work she does).

Not a bad match and angle to end the show.

Steiner's promo, not so much.

I wish they would have ended it with Bully Ray's promo so everything didn't run together at the end.

That's all for Thursday's wrestling thoughts. I'll be back later tonight with a news post.
