Smackdown thoughts- 5/13/11

Last week, Randy Orton won his eighth World Championship at the expense of Christian. This week, we get all the fallout of this title change. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.

WWE really does a good job on their video packages.

Nice number of Christian signs. Hopefully WWE took note.

Interesting promo from Christian. WWE's in a tough place with him.

Thank you, Internet, for making me mentally say "It's a shameful thing, Lobsterhead." and "Too many limes! Too many limes!" every time I hear Sheamus' theme. It's a pretty kick-ass song with its actual lyrics.

It only took 2 words to get a "fella" from Sheamus.

Hard to believe this guy used to use a fake tan.

That match idea came kind of out of nowhere.

New ring attire for Henry?

I'm liking Henry's new heel attitude.

Hey, they did something this week. They waited to go backstage with Long instead of him coming out there to make the match.

Thankfully, Orton didn't save Christian "because it's the right thing to do" or something. His character needs to stay edgy.

I'm liking the feud with Chavo for now. Sin Cara got to show a little more personality reacting to him. I continue to wonder what he'll do if he doesn't cut a promo at some point.

Nice showcase of Cara in this match.

Wow. He's pretty impressive here, adjusting pretty well to the WWE environment.

I don't know if it's being with Bryan that's doing it or what, but he's really "on" tonight. Bryan's doing well as well. Don't discount that.

Based on this match, I think "Smackdown Wrestling" is more appropriate than TNA's name change.

"Right in our living room" while he's at the announce table. You so crazy, Booker.

And Cara wins again. He's starting to live up to the hype for me.

Props to some in WWE for correctly pronouncing "Scene Carruh".

I think the motions after the match were a little much from Cara, but he does have to be sure that the whole arena knows his intentions.

Something tell me that Heath Slater won't have a successful acting career. Unless maybe they dub over his voice.

Ezekiel looks like he's taking a nap in that shot.

I wish they would have let Layla talk longer to give her more of a chance to connect with the audience since she's a face now.

I wonder what they're leading to with the Divas and Cole. Hopefully Kaitlyn gives him a wedgie. Or, you know, he gets laid out. Or both.

I was half-expecting her to take out Cole instead.

That works, too. I guess they're saving him getting destroyed for Lawler at Over The Limit, which makes sense.

What does this mean for all the Divas who have been destroyed? Not that I wanted Layla to beat Kharma or have a 10-minute match with her. At least give them some ineffective offense. They know what she does by now; they should be trying to avoid the fate of the others.

Ex-communicated? Is Barrett the Pope?

Hopefully they're not thinking Kane/Show/Zeke vs. The Corre. The latter would be toast.

Wade's looking mostly credible against Kane.

The talk about "big guys" brought back memories of Black Snow on Impact. "Snow" and "Chett Lemon" should do alternate commentary on some DVDs. I don't know if they could use those names, though.

Barrett didn't lose clean, so he's somewhat protected here. Same goes with Kane.

I just happened to think, if Zeke is going to be on his own, does he get that awesome "Domination" theme back?

Nice beatdown to give The Corre some credibility. Kane has plenty of it, so it's smart to give the rub to the less-established guys.

And there's my answer.

I like where this is headed. Props to Armstrong. He was good in his role here.

Nice visual of Henry presumably talking about singling out either Orton or Christian for a 2-on-1 beatdown. He didn't need to say anything picked up by the camera to get it across. Pretty much all tag matches in WWE have a 2-on-1 advantage for the heels until the "hot tag" brings in the other face. Why? Because the crowd gets really into it. It ain't broke. Don't "fix" it.

We're really going back to the Khali Kiss Cam? I was hoping to forget about that. Hopefully it's just a set-up to hear more from/about Jinder Mahal. Speaking of which, I wonder what his finisher would be called. The play on "Mahal" is just too obvious to pass up.

Is this gimmick some kind of rib on Khali or something?

Oh, heel Cole... you and your tasteless remarks.

Oh, good, this segment has a point to it.

Mahal's a good-sized guy himself.

Khali didn't fight back, and Ranjin didn't step in... interesting. This one's pretty intriguing.

For anyone wondering, Mahal is of Indian descent but is actually from Canada.

The newspaper in Rhodes' entrance is the Charlotte Observer. Cool. He cuts a good "weird, dark, dreary" promo.

Weird that they're going with Rhodes vs. DiBiase so soon. I figured they'd put more build to it.

I wonder how much it would cost to have paper bags for everyone in the arena.

NICE chain-wrestling here.

Wow. Not a good start for DiBiase on Smackdown.

Why did Slater tell Barrett to put the title on the line? Unless his character just blurts things out like that now when there's no real reason for Wade to do it.

I wonder where Sheamus, Mark Henry, The Great Khali, and Cody Rhodes end up on the card next Sunday.

Christian's a workhorse.

Cole made a pretty good point about Cena and Christian's title matches.

Wait, if Orton wanted him at 100%, why didn't he do most of the work in the match?

I'm liking the ebb and flow of this match. Sheamus is doing pretty well.

Scratch that. EVERYONE'S doing well.

Another thing people misinterpret from Sheamus: It's not the "Bro Kick", as hilarious as that sounds. It's the Brogue Kick, brogue meaning a strong accent.

Pretty nice ending.

That's it for Smackdown. The Friday news post is coming up in a heartbeat.
