Bret Hart talked about the Hart Dungeon to WWE.com:
- Stu Hart was a legendary promoter and trainer. Cool to read about those days.
- Iron Sheik's training was something else. I wonder how some of today's wrestlers would fare doing his training or Bob Backlund's.
- Imagine if Bret had stayed with WWF and did more training? That could have been a big boon for the company.
- There's a big difference between training someone through legitimate grappling and just having people do stupid drills and hazing them.
- They absolutely should have changed the mats if they were that dirty. Gross.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Jesse Ventura talked about Verne Gagne and more:
- Ventura and Hogan absolutely were inspired by Graham.
- It's good wrestlers got a good amount of time off under Verne.
- It sucks some performers (and people in general) have to be babysat like that.
Announced for this week's Impact Wrestling:
- Kurt Angle vs. Eric Young
- Fans Decide the Stipulation: Mr. Anderson vs. Ethan Carter III
- The Doll House vs. Awesome Kong and Gail Kim
That sounds like a pretty good card to start Corgan's run on Creative.
Set for this week's NXT:
- Hideo Itami vs. Tyler Breeze
- Charlotte vs. Emma
- Rhyno vs. Bull Dempsey
- A contract signing between Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch
I look forward to it!
Alex Riley will be having surgery on his knee to deal with nagging issues. Being injured by Owens is just a cover.
Matt Hardy, Mr. Anderson, and Drew Galloway will be working AAA's Lucha Libre World Cup on behalf of TNA. What about Tigre Uno or Manik? Or someone else from the X-Division? This seems like a pretty odd teaming.
Charlotte was at both Raw and Smackdown this week. There's been talk of bringing her up soon, which they should! Not so soon after Tamina returned, though. Give it a few more weeks when the Divas division needs something new and fresh.
Impact's audience Friday was 417,000 in the first timeslot, with 131,000 for the replay. While that's higher for the original show, the replay dropped enough for it to be an overall decrease from the previous week. That's a little surprising given the buzz from Corgan coming aboard. This week's show will be pretty important.
Billy Corgan will be at all the upcoming Impact Wrestling tapings, so presumably he'll be involved creatively pretty heavily going into Slammiversary. This will really be something to watch.
Update: Corgan will have a conference call later this week, which will get even more hype to the May 8 show.
Chris Jericho is expected to do another house show loop for WWE this summer, including spots in June and July. That will be great for them.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. Vince already charges for PPVs. I'm not really sure what that means. Anyway, I don't see WWE promoting non-WWE events on the Network anytime soon. There should be plenty of content under the WWE umbrella to fill the time, especially in the years to come. Maybe things change, but I don't see things going in that direction in the next couple of years.
2. I pretty much agree. They could do some kind of legends battle royal or something to really protect Hogan, but no way should he be having a singles match at this point. I doubt he's got it in him to have one that wouldn't just make everyone sad at how it's not the '80s or '90s anymore.
3. Honestly, I don't know if they'd be able to do much beyond a little nostalgia run like the Outlaws were supposed to have going into WM30. WWE wants to invest in the future, as they should. I think they could have done The Ascension vs. The Dudleys at WM31 had the former team been built better, but now that match wouldn't mean anything. Unless there's a great pitch to bring them back, I don't see much reason to invest TV time in them. Maybe in NXT?
4. Only if you want to look like Triple H's friend Mark. It's not like WWE's going to look at your sign and change their booking plans. What if Lana throws in the white flag and turns face, saving Rusev from tapping? He could still retain some credibility then if he comes back strong in the months to follow. Although, with Rollins as champion, there's really nowhere for him to go but down. As for Wyatt, he just had another big WM match. I don't think he was ruined or anything.
5. I think they could really become a below-the-radar hit with the indie fans. They're not even competition to TNA ratings-wise. El Rey is only in about 20% of U.S. homes.
More wrestling tomorrow.
