WWE did a Pat Patterson appreciation night after Raw. He was Vince's right-hand man in the earlier days. Very important part of WWF history. Touching ceremony!
Lanny Poffo is the latest guest on YouShoot. These are usually pretty great.
- It's got to be tough being in Savage's shadow. I hope he's doing well these days.
- Poffo's a really intelligent guy.
- Nice Groucho impression by Oliver.
- Poffo's pretty good at poetry, but I think that was already pretty well known.
- This one looks pretty good.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Triple H commented on Sami Zayn's Raw match. That match was a thing of beauty. Zayn lost, but fans will remember him a lot better than a good number of people who won their first matches.
JTG will be writing a book getting heat in WWE. Looking for that money, money, yeah, yeah. He lasted a lot longer than a lot of people thought he would. That should be a great book.
Jeff Hardy is not expected back for roughly two months. So, Slammiversary is almost definitely out. Unless TNA puts Matt and Davey together as a team, we might be looking at another vacation of the titles.
Dixie Carter is planning on giving polygraphs to talents to avoid news leaks. I think there are much bigger things for her to focus on. If talents weren't late on their checks, they wouldn't need to tell that to the news sites.
Justin Bieber was considered for wrestling at Summerslam 2014:
- Part of me actually wishes that would have happened, just for the sheer trainwreck of it. It would have almost definitely have buried the Wyatts, though. That would suck.
- Honestly that story sounds interesting. A lot of people would have hated it, though. Possibly me included.
- I do think it could have hurt WWE and Cena to be associated with Beiber. He would have been booed pretty heartily. Imagine Wyatt's promos about Beiber, though.
Raw dropped to 3.57 million viewers Monday. That's a real shame, because the show was really amazing in places.
PWInsider collected a number of tweets from stars reacting to E:60's look at NXT. It was cool to see Bully Ray and James Storm put it over. Part of me wants to see The Revolution vs. The Wyatt Family, but the odds of that happening are pretty nil.
Goldust announced he will be out two-to-four months following shoulder surgery. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up heading to NXT when that time period's up. He's had an awesome run. I think it might be best if he opens a new chapter down there helping out younger stars.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I definitely think it should just be for big occasions for it to mean anything. Unless they're bringing him up as Finndust, in which case it should be every match.
2. They could go in a number of different directions. JR, Stone Cold, Tazz... why not Piper or Flair or any of the million of other wrestlers with podcasts?
3. I generally don't think his return should be a surprise. He should be able to get a rematch at Summerslam or whenever without getting involved with MITB. MITB can still work. Just like the Rumble or KOTR or any other gimmick to promote people. I'm fine with it sticking around, although I'm open to there being a new wrinkle in it if it makes sense.
4. I definitely think the company then was a money pit. They weren't ready for the added expenses of going on the road, going live against Raw, making some of those big signings, etc.. While they were definitely more mainstream, I think it came at great expense. As for the BFG Series, I found it kind of convoluted. It was a cool idea and added intrigue to BFG season, but it didn't work out the way they wanted. Maybe if everyone had the same amount of matches and the point system wasn't so complicated, it could have been better?
Nothing to add to 5.
More wrestling tomorrow.
