NXT thoughts- 8/30/11

Smackdown's not the only thing on the dais tonight. WWE's also got a new episode of NXT to cover. Derrick Bateman, Titus O'Neil, and Darren Young all continue to battle it out for a shot on the next season of the show, where the winner will get a guaranteed spot on Raw or Smackdown. Who will move closer to evening out their previous elimination? Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.
Wait, what? Recap show? Ok then...

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but for all the flak it gets, NXT's collective alumni have started off their careers pretty well in WWE.

You know, a break might be a good thing for this show. It's been kind of spinning its tires at times.

Pretty cool video package on Brodus Clay.

Honey Badger reference!

NXT Season 3 was definitely one-of-a-kind.

Well, at least we're getting something related to this season.

This is actually kind of a cool concept to get over how important the show is as a breeding ground for stars.

I want to see a battle of Sin Caras one of these days.

Chaos everywhere in that match.

I'm curious as to how they decided to go with this format this week.

Interesting that they cut out O'Brien's challenge to Triple H.

And that's 25 weeks summed up in less than 5 minutes. Actually a good recap video.

Since there's nothing new to say about the competitors this week, I'll give the details on the new ranking system which will debut next week:
Basically, since the tiers had become too vague and didn't give too good of an indication of who was doing well, so I'm scrapping it. Instead, each rookie will be ranked on a scale of 1 to 5.

1 basically means that a talent is absolutely rubbish, with very little if any potential to improve. The sooner they're gone from the show, the better.

2 means that a talent might have a bright spot or two, but is subpar to say the least. In serious need of a revamp.

3 either means that a talent is average in pretty much every way, or strong in some areas but weak in others. Enough to where it pretty much evens out and leaves them dead-center.

4 means that someone's pretty strong in a number of areas, but not strong enough to be absolutely must-see. Alternately it can mean that while some traits rank really high, another category keeps them from being a 5.

5, for the sake of NXT, is someone who has all of the tools necessary to win and needs very little if any improvement. Like 1s, these are hard to attain.

Hopefully that makes more sense. Next week, I'll apply that scale to each of the rookies.

And that's all for NXT this week. I'll be back Thursday for Superstars and Impact Wrestling. A news post will be up at some point tomorrow. Thanks for reading!
