Smackdown thoughts- 8/19/11

Last Sunday, Randy Orton defeated Christian to become World Champion once again. Yes, just like a few months ago. What's next for the Viper and the man who turned his back on his peeps? Find out the answer to that and more tonight on Smackdown. Read on for my thoughts on the show as it happens.
Darn, I was expecting Long to talk about Summerslam, then be interrupted by Christian.

Oh shi- Legacy reunion.

Awesome segment. Definitely a break from the expected.

Zeke's starting off pretty strong for someone who was "buried" last week. Protip: You're not getting buried if you stand tall at the end of the match, taking out someone in the process (DiBiase).

Not bad at all. Someone backstage is a Rhodes fan. I'm liking his work a good deal. As long as they don't push him too much too quickly, we could have something here.

Zack Ryder's officially on the Raw roster if anyone wonders or cares. I think they should officially move him over, but I guess they still want him to face some Raw people on Superstars.

Del Rio making an unadvertised Smackdown appearance. The man's the WWE Champion; him being on the show should be pushed further in advance.

We will never get to hear Aksana and Kozlov have a promo together. ;_;

WWE continues the evolution of Justin Gabriel's look and music. He's improving with his expressions and the like; he's slowly but surely growing.

Better Kidd than Slater as his opponent.

Cole put over NXT!? Never thought I'd hear that.

Gabriel needs a move called Gabriel's Trumpet.

Dear TNA, this is how you get over smaller competitors.

Mahal looks pretty sizable compared to Striker, and that's standing near Khali. Good segment with those two.

I wonder if we'll get any acknowledgement of Del Rio's past with Brodus Clay. That's assuming Clay will even be on the show since he's only had a couple of squash matches on Superstars to "re-introduce" him.

I also wonder if we'll ever see Ricardo Rodriguez in the ring in WWE (outside of his brief match on NXT). He's a regular in the ring in FCW.

There were a few bumps along the way, but Alberto Del Rio's been made a pretty big deal in the past year. He wasn't an Attitude Era name; not many knew him outside of Mexico; but WWE's made him someone the fans really want to see. Granted, Del Rio's immensely talented and that's why it's working.

That music. I like it.

Bryan and Del Rio can get it done in the ring.

Bryan's getting some pretty nice chants. He's belonging more and more as time goes on. Maybe he can be champion material come Mania after all.

I wonder if Bryan will get to take Cole out again. He should get to after the commentary here.

Ok, Cole's hilarious in the right circumstances but when a serious match is going on, he should be toned down. Then again, it sets up him being proven wrong and eventually respecting Bryan as a competitor.

Solid match. Bryan's really growing on me. He's not at main event level by my scale yet, but he's getting there. The right guy won. Bryan should look good, but not THAT good yet.

I think I like smaller Sin Cara better. It just looks like it fits more for his underdog role.

Plaid AND baby blue? Nice.

Natalya's a scary chick as a heel. A Hartbreaker, if you will.

Didn't Natalya pull out some of Alicia's hair on Superstars a few weeks back? I guess Natalya "came to her senses" now so they're good.

AJ's a natural damsel in distress (babyface in peril, however you want to call it).

Natalya confirmed for mega-heel. She's downright unsettling.

Yoshi and Tyson are pretty close considering the feud they're in on NXT.

I'm a little surprised to see Regal here. They needed 20 people, though, and he's a Smackdown guy.

Honestly I might go with Khali here (so we can get Henry-Sheamus II).

I like the stories here: Khali being with Jinder, and Mark Henry going on a tear.

Jackson getting a big win over Khali would pretty much make him a main eventer.

Impressive spot by the monstrous Henry.

I like the story brewing between Henry and Sheamus. And Orton by extension.

That spot by Cara and Kidd looked off.

Orton vs. Barrett could be pretty good as well. A Cara/Barrett feud would be intriguing.

I liked Cara's spots on the ropes.

How many "Oh My Goodness"es is that tonight?

I was hoping they'd hold off Henry/Orton for another month, but the title match scene really needed some shaking up. There are arguments both ways.

That's it for Smackdown. I'll be back Monday for Raw. A news post will be up later tonight. Thanks for reading!
