Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 8/11/11

Today on WWE.com, Santino Marella teams with Evan Bourne in a match against the WWE Tag Team Champions. Will the unlikely pairing be able to beat the NXT alumni? Later, on Impact Wrestling, new World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle will discuss his match with Sting from Hardcore Justice. The war between Immortal and Fortune will also continue on the show. Read on for my thoughts on all this and more as the shows air.

There was a time when DiBiase was looked at as a future main eventer and World Champion. Hard to believe in a way.

I like Rhodes keeping an eye on the match.

C.M. Punk's not on those lovely collector cups.

You'd think that Jack would bring up Striker's recent matches on NXT.

You know who could use a fresh coat of paint soon? Trent Barreta. He's just kind of "there" character-wise since the Dudebusters aren't a team anymore.

Why are Alicia and Tamina fighting? Weren't they just on the same page bullying the Chickbusters?

Oh, ok. That makes sense. It kind of came out of the blue, though.

That match wasn't half bad. If this was a result of Goldust's work as an agent for the Division, my hat's off to him. I'm not sold on Alicia as the next title contender, though. She still has a ways to go.

That camera angle making Brodus look like a beast is brilliant.

That dude looks like AJ from Tough Enough with different hair.

Brodus obviously takes care and spikes his hair.

Oh, right, AJ can stand for Aaron James.

Not a bad match at all. Brodus is moving up the ladder. Granted, he's working shorter matches than he was on NXT.

I hereby christen this team Bournetino. I miss when combining people's names was "in", like Bennifer and umm...

Intergalactic Stallions. GLORIOUS. Put that on a T-shirt.

I like Stanford's dry wit on commentary.

I'm liking the team of Otunga and McGillicutty. They're starting to come into their own.

Bourne can move, that's for sure.

And another fine match on Superstars.

And on to Impact Wrestling.

Would you believe that Hulk Hogan's only turning 58 today?

Bully Ray and Mr. Anderson beat each other so badly that neither of them show any signs of it 4 days later. What happened to people coming to the ring bandaged and bruised (via makeup if necessary) after a big fight?

That's actually a nice match idea.

Bully Ray's promo putting over Anderson was pretty good. He's got to be one of the best characters in TNA right now.

"Immortal Suck" sign. Nice.

More Heel/Face Revolving Doors. Don't like Anderson's alignment this week? Don't worry; it will be different in a month or so.

I'll never be able to take the McLovin guy in a serious role.

Don West needs to be on TV more.

Things like blinds need to be on TV less. I hate that so much.

I'm really getting tired of "Hardcore Country".

I didn't really feel that match.

I bet Robbie E's glad that "Jersey Shore"'s back on the air. He's relevant again!

Yeah, I think it's time to go back to the drawing board with Robbie E and Cookie.

That Direct commercial was pretty funny in its own ridiculous way.

Again, Daniels is in pretty good shape for someone who went through a table 4 nights back.

You know you've watched wrestling for a long time when you immediately think that a doubleteam's going to backfire when a tag team is having issues.

Angle looks a lot smaller lately.

Oh boy, Dixie Carter in another angle.

Young talent in TNA?

But... didn't Angle try to take out Immortal when he got Fortune to switch sides?

This angle's crazy.

Brooke Tessmacher. Well at least she has a first name now.

Tessmacher's improved a lot recently. I could do without the ass-to-the-face move, though.

Wow, this angle's pretty lame, too. TNA tries too hard and makes things too complex.

What's the over/under for how long ODB and Jackie stay in TNA?

Stone Cold being advertised during TNA. Nice.

I've forgotten half of those guys' names.

The Jarretts' costumes already have me more entertained than any of the wrestlers in the last segment.

Another hilarious segment in the "trainwreck" sense.

I wonder if this is leading to Chavo coming to TNA when his no-compete clause expires?

The longer this Eric Young thing goes without a payoff, the less I care.

Ray vs. Anderson is a battle of people with few if any redeemable qualities.

TNA's certainly behind Crimson.

I like Morgan's analyst role.

Wasn't crazy about that match. Parts of it got really dragged down.

The Undefeated Crimson should just be his name now, like Ultimate Warrior.

Theoretically this sets up Crimson to return as a super-face and win the title from Kurt. Meh.

That's all for Thursday's wrestling. I'll be back to cover Smackdown tomorrow and a news post will be up later tonight. Thanks for reading!
