Superstars and Impact Wrestling thoughts- 8/4/11

Today on WWE Superstars, Jack Swagger goes up against Chris Masters in a battle of submission users. Will the ankle lock or MasterLock prevail? Then, on Impact Wrestling, Kurt Angle and Sting sign the contract for their upcoming TNA Title match. Also, in the Bound For Glory Series, there's Joe vs. Dinero, Styles vs. Devon, Steiner/Gunner vs. RVD/Crimson. Who will move up the rankings tonight? Read on for my thoughts on the shows as they happen.
No Natalya with Kaitlyn. A bit surprising.

Kaitlyn pulling out some new moves here. I'm impressed.

That was a heck of a showing by the relatively inexperienced Kaitlyn. I think she just moved up a peg on the Divas roster.

Nice squash match. Brodus seems more agile than he was when we last saw him. Someone his size who can move quickly could really be a force to reckon with. Hopefully it's not too long until we see him back on Smackdown. Maybe he can feud with Johnny Curtis like NXT Season 4?

I like them having the Slurpee cups at the tables. I bet 7-Eleven does, too. "Subtle" plugs.

NXT on Superstars. I like.

Stanford's pretty entertaining on Z!TLIS.

Ice-T's the original gangsta, or so his song says.

Good little match that didn't really mean much. This show's a diamond in the rough a lot of times; it's a shame they don't promote it more.

Chris Masters is showing some real fire.

I don't know who came up with that dance around the ring Swagger does, but it's hilarious.

Nice ring psychology in this one.

Both men were solid here, but Masters earns extra points for how much he's improved over the years. Hard to believe this is the same guy who showed up jacked to the gills in 2005.

On to Impact Wrestling.

Good putting over of Immortal by Bully Ray.

Ray vs. Anderson feels a little rushed, but it makes sense for Sunday. I liked Ray a lot more in this segment than Anderson.

Everybody's fighting everybody.

I want to see Knockouts wrestling, not weird softcore porn with yelling that occasionally has a move or two thrown in. That match was kind of a mess.

Props to TNA for making this Series important with the house show results being talked about on-air, the interviews, etc.. I had my misgivings at first, but now I think they should make this a yearly thing.

I think they should show each wrestler's point total with their name on the intro graphic.

I hope Devon's family start calling him "Uncle Pope". He's great in this role.

Hey, I think I've seen that move used by another wrestler recently. But you already knew that.

Dinero AND Daniels at ringside? Sheesh.

Nice match from a story standpoint. It did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Angle and Sting have had a pretty storied rivalry by TNA standards.

Nice promo by Dinero.

Morgan being on commentary's cool by me.

Good match that could have been a great match if it had more time.

I think the "reversed decision" thing's ridiculous. I don't think I've ever liked that idea. The match is over, done, in the books. The referee's decision should be final unless someone higher-up restarts the match (which wouldn't have made sense in this case). Fine him or something if he "goes too far". You can even strip him of points. But it doesn't change the fact that he made Pope tap out and won the match by doing so.

I don't like Joe's yelling promos. It can really be overdone.

Sarita's really creepy looking with that mask.

Something tells me that Beer Money's getting ghetto-stomped this Sunday unless they pull a super-face comeback.

Pretty good hardcore/weapons match.

I was impressed here. Heels get heat on the strong babyface leading to the big tag match on Sunday.

Yes, I still hate TNA's camerman gimmick.

Mr. Anderson's officially in the heel/face revolving door.

Things are going to get even more crowded next week it looks like. The X-Division only gets one match a week usually anyway, so that feels like it would dilute the division rather than add to it.

Aries had some good heel movements here and we had a lot of innovative moves, but I didn't really like it as a match.

That was kind of funny. Not really what I want on a wrestling show, though. What could this possibly be leading to that will matter?

They're doing a good job building Angle vs. Sting this week. Granted, there's a lot to draw from between the two of them.

This feels like a DVD extra or something.

I think I'd rather be hearing promotion for another match on Sunday, since Sting vs. Angle's already a pretty big deal.

I loved that full nelson spot.

Crimson vs. Steiner would be interesting to see.

Nice match with some cool spots involved.

Fine interview as well.

Not really a contract signing that made me want to see a big match on Sunday, but an ok segment. Usually on the "go home" show you end with a big happening, but we didn't get that here.

That's all for Thursday's wrestling. I'll be back tomorrow night for Smackdown, and there are two news posts upcoming later tonight, one of which details WWE's financial earnings for the second quarter of 2011. Thanks for reasing!
