WWE's recent signings from India were profiled:
- It's probably best for Khali's health to not be on the road full-time given the state of his health. He was having trouble walking to the ring.
- The idea of Khali as a manager or something for the new Indian signings might work, but there would be the risk of the bigger man overshadowing them. And that could be a lot to pay for him to be in their corner.
WWE has surpassed 500 million followers on social media. I'm guessing people who follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook are counted twice, but that's still really impressive. This is a pretty big area for them to invest in going forward, and they want to turn those followers into Network subscribers, merchandise buyers, and so on.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
There are rumors of a WWE Hall of Fame Restaurant appearing in Universal Orlando. That would be really interesting given the proximity to where TNA tapes Impact Wrestling. I think it could actually draw fans from the restaurant to the tapings. Right now this is just a possibility, though. It might not come to fruition for a few years, if at all.
A Pakistani pro wrestler trying out for Tough Enough was profiled. I think it'd be great for WWE to pick up talent to positively represent the Middle East.
Jeremy Borash, Christy Hemme, Rebel, and TNA producer James Long were all visiting at ROH's live event in Nashville recently. That's interesting. I wonder how the higher-ups feel about that.
John Cena was bleeding from the nose following a match with King Barrett at a live event Sunday night. I'm sure Kevin Owens will be happy to make that happen two weeks in a row.
Nikki Bella vs. Paige for the Divas' Championship and R-Truth vs. King Barrett on the Kickoff show have both been added to Sunday's MITB event.
Booker T. and Lita have reported to the WWE Performance Center for their Tough Enough duties. That's why Booker missed Raw. Tough Enough should be an interesting show, but I don't intend to cover it with so much other wrestling stuff on TV right now. It's a reality show in the vein of "Total Divas," and I don't cover that either.
Scott Hall is entering a detox facility following his recent incident at a live event. He has been pulled from GFW shows and a Kliq reunion WWE was set to do. Sobriety can be a difficult process. I wish him the best.
Here are some notes on the competitors on the new season of Tough Enough. It looks like they have a nice mix of people with experience and people who might just be fodder or interesting characters. It should make for good TV.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. "Worker" has grown to mean something different than it used to. Warrior being able to work the crowd into spending their money to see him should count as well. I don't think anyone would say he was Ricky Steamboat out there, but he did enough with his role to make his mark. There are a lot of more technically gifted wrestlers who can't say they got as far as he did.
2. Some people's definition of "pro wrestling" is barbed wire and explosions and that kind of thing, just like some people see it as PG sports entertainment with no blood. Honestly, as long as there's a market for that kind of chaos, there's going to be someone trying to make money from it. There are plenty of dangerous, irresponsible things people enjoy doing with not much thought of the future of those involved.
3. ROH is owned by Sinclair, and they're going to keep showing their property on their local stations. The Destination America deal is just a bonus for them. Talk about a big win for ROH, right? They just greatly increased their audience.
4. In two of those three victories, it was more or less Lana who was the cause of Rusev's demise (which is the whole point of their split now). Rusev had to lose eventually, and he really didn't have anywhere else to go as a heel. They weren't going to push him ahead of Brock, Show, or Rollins after all. He got four PPV matches out of the Cena feud, which is pretty impressive. As for Owens, he's fresh on the scene and they wanted him to make a big impact for his debut. I think having the Elimination Chamber on the Network (where NXT is) and Owens' merch sales probably convinced WWE to book Owens so strongly. They booked Rusev really strongly for many a month before the Cena feud. Owens is in some ways "the next Rusev" as far as being the big debuting monster.
5. It wouldn't be best for business to not give Reigns some chance to win. Fans would tune out, he might not sell as much merch, etc., which would affect WWE's bottom line. The Authority has to answer to the Board of Directors, who are concerned about dollars and cents.
More wrestling tomorrow.
