Superstars:
- Lucha Dragons vs. Bo/Slater:
Bo's gimmick remains entertaining. He's a good contrast with the high-flyers.
The Lucha Dragons are a really good team. They don't have the mic skills/charisma of PTP, but they're a good team.
- Harper vs. Cesaro:
This match is really heating up. Both men are good performers, and I hope they both see more gold in the future.
Good ending. It's great to see people with this level of experience and a different style in WWE.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Erick Rowan is expected to miss six months due to a biceps tear. That sucks. It's definitely time to look at reshuffling the deck with so many people injured. Picking up some outside names with experience is probably a smart move right now. Or maybe giving some alumni another chance?
Dolph Ziggler has signed a new multi-year deal with WWE. I like Ziggler a good deal, but I think he's pretty much reached the glass ceiling with his current character. If so many people weren't injured, I'd think it'd be a good idea for him to disappear for a few months and get some kind of repackaging. He's got to be burned out at this point.
Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn missed the taping of Smackdown in order to be at the live Tough Enough premiere. If there was some way for Vince to be at both tapings at once, I'm sure he'd do it. He's an extremely determined person.
Jimmy Uso will be a regular part of the Smackdown announce team until his brother returns from injury. That should tell you something about how much he means as a singles star. He could do dark matches with NXT talents and Brad Maddox if they wanted to make use of him in the ring.
Here are some remarks from Jeff Jarrett about TNA working with GFW going forward. I'm excited about what this could mean. I like the idea of smaller promotions working together like the territory days. It doesn't mean they all become one promotion, but making use of each other's resources when feasible. Like GFW making use of ROH star Moose for some live events. GFW needed some names to work the card, and Moose could use more matches under his belt. It's a win-win, because people who saw Moose and liked him could check him out in ROH, too.
Smackdown's audience Thursday night was 2.50 million, up a bit from the previous week. So Vince and KD didn't have to worry about things going to hell without them for the night.
The winner of the King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary will be the first-ever "King of the Mountain Champion." That sounds like a great way to start an angle of Jarrett taking a TNA championship hostage for GFW. That would definitely get people talking.
The main event for Monday's Raw will be Seth Rollins and Kane taking on Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. No shocker there. I could see them moving that to earlier in the show and it leading to something else later in the night, though. God knows they'll change the script multiple times before they go to air.
At this point in time, there is nothing to reports of Jeff Jarrett seeking to buy TNA. His focus is on building the GFW brand. Given the current climate of TNA, I can't say I blame him. If they do get dropped by DA, it would be much easier to sweep in and pick up the rights, contracts, etc.. Say he wants to sign MVP, whose contract expires in February. TNA has more negotiating power right now with a TV home and an established brand. But if they lose the former and GFW looks like it has a chance to take off, it would be easier to either try to buy him out of his remaining deal, or wait until it expires and not have to make as steep of an offer. TNA is a bigger deal than GFW in June 2015, but that might not be true by February.
Notably, the Jarretts weren't at Thursday or Friday's Impact Wrestling tapings. That would seem to indicate he's not "back on board" in any kind of creative/business capacity at this stage. That could change by the July tapings, but it's no guarantee.
TNA production staff is once more behind on being paid. It's probably time for them to update their resumes and head to some job-seeking sites. Hopefully TNA will at least be able to get what's taped in July done without that side of things collapsing.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. TNA is introducing a King of the Mountain Championship. I get a feeling we'll see Jarrett win it and maybe some TNA stars show up at the GFW taping to take it back? The main problem with a TNA vs. GFW angle is the two sides are taping TV on the same night on the opposite side of the country. Although I'd assume with nine straight nights of TV tapings, TNA will be able to work around that. July 24 can be saved for Xplosion/One Night Only stuff so some top stars can be in Vegas. This is purely hypothetical, though. It might just be Jarrett winning and turning it into the GFW Title. Or, you know, TNA can put it on someone else and have it defended however often they want to use the KOTM gimmick.
2. She probably has a better chance of going into the TNA Hall of Fame at this point.
3. As long as they get there eventually, I don't care if it's this year or a few years from now. Victoria, Jacqueline, and Ivory should be considered as well. And Sable, although I don't know the odds of that one happening.
4. I can find a grand total of one match she did post-FCW, and that was more than a year ago. So I'd guess she's doing something else now.
Nothing to add to 5.
More wrestling tomorrow.
