Mick Foley defended the ending to the Ambrose/Rollins HIAC match. I'm mostly OK with it. It's all a matter of where they go from here and if Ambrose does get to be a true top guy.
WWE is selling Stardust masks and gloves, so I expect the character to continue for a while. Everyone involved has done a great job with the new gimmick.
Set for this week's NXT:
- Tag team battle royal to determine the #1 Contenders for the Lucha Dragons
- Carmella vs. Emma
- Bull Dempsey vs. Justin Gabriel
- Baron Corbin vs. Tony Briggs
- Marcus Louis vs. Sylvester LeFort
- Sami Zayn vs. Titus O'Neill
NXT is always worth checking out.
Everything else from yesterday is after the break.
Sting will be part of the next edition of WWE's comic book series. Awesome!
Here's more on the recent lawsuit facing WWE. It's a mix of valid concerns and tying into a recent NFL lawsuit. I'm curious to see how this plays out.
Bray Wyatt went under the ring during the pre-match video for Ambrose vs. Rollins. I still like that ending, but I'm a sucker for storytelling.
The WWE Performance Center will be featured in the new edition of Muscle & Fitness. It's an impressive place.
A number of talents have begun training down at NXT. It will be a process, but eventually the NXT generation will make it to the main roster.
Update: Here are some of the talents who are working there now:
- Former NFL player Sabotino "Sabby" Piscitelli
- Model Gionna Daddio
- Amateur wrestler Sunny Dhinsa (who had tried out for the Olympics in 2012).
- Bodybuilder Dustin Mueller
- Model Brittney Zahra Schreiber
- Amateur wrestler/MMA fighter Josh Woods
All of them had to pass tryouts to make it this far, so I'm willing to see what they've all got. I hope the ones without wrestling backgrounds are able to prove they belong.
WWE is now back selling C.M. Punk merchandise, leading to speculation of him signing some sort of agreement for that purpose. I definitely wouldn't read that as him coming back to the company to wrestle, but hopefully he's at least on better terms with WWE now.
The recent WWE tryouts were for international talents, notably Spanish-speaking talents. Talents from Russia and The Netherlands among other places worked out there. Uhaa Nation is said to have impressed, so hopefully he'll be signed and will add to the awesome workers WWE has under contract.
A number of NXT talents were at a recent ROH TV taping in Florida. Nothing wrong with them visiting friends or what have you.
Smackdown dropped to 2.28 million viewers Friday night. That's the lowest non-holiday number in nearly six months. I do think WWE's in something of a lull right now with top names missing for various reasons. It could be a while before that's remedied.
After Raw, Stephanie McMahon offered John Cena a spot in The Authority. This was a setup for him to be attacked by Noble and Mercury. Cena prevailed to send the crowd home happy.
For my take on yesterday's PWInsider.com questions:
1. I definitely think that's a big part of it. There's also the fact of there being so much WWE content out there each week, and so much more that can be found online. That said, I do think the product could be booked a lot better as well.
2. AJ is indeed amazing. I think I'd rather see AJ vs. Mickie, but AJ vs. Trish would be amazing as well if Trish can still go. I wouldn't expect it to happen, though.
3. They absolutely have to get a lot more talented people over. I think in some ways they'd have to if there was a brand extension and they couldn't just keep going back to Cena vs. Orton, bringing back part-timers, etc..
4. I think the vast majority of fans have no idea Taker's working in NXT now. I also think he should keep that gimmick. I'd rather see the first Ascension or Bray Wyatt than someone trying to be the next Taker.
5. I don't know if Punk has the same affinity for the current ROH as he did for the organization he worked with years back. I think he's more than willing to move on from appearing as a wrestler, so it's not a given he'd attend that ceremony.
More wrestling tomorrow.
